Hi! Welcome everyone!
First of all, I currently mentioned I'm working jagas and associate Dean for the Culture, business management and I really like to welcome welcome you to UAS virtually, but welcome to UAS and Unfortunate today. Miss Erin Sotelo is unable to join us because she's in maternity leave, but she will come back in early early spring.
Let me tell you a little bit about the college. And by the way, please ask any questions, any comment you may have, please write them in the chat and we'll go through that. Alright? But let me just give you an overall view of the college. Well, well, do we offer to you and why? This is a great place. First of all, we are created by this organization. And what does this mean to you? Well, it means that first of all I need to hire.
For people that teach at UAS, they need to have the credentials to teach at College of Business. That means that they need to have a PhD related to business. They need to be professionals at work in the industry. They are successful and they have an MBA we have.
Make sure that students are learning. We need to make sure that our faculty improves year by year and this accreditation is expensive. It costs a lot of time, but we believe this or best way to ensure quality for our students anywhere. Anytime that you see this low receiver create created.

Hello
Logo that dummies quite a bit for business schools, and we're one of those that we are fortunate to have. One of those what I like about you, I guess, is that we combine this ability to get a created with really cool programs like the Beta Gamma Sigma, which is basically or Honor Society for the whole college and.

Hello
Carly Leffel
01:20:47 PM
Good afternoon! Let us know where you are joining us from.
OK where I created we have this type of organizations are unique for the works is be a great organizations and were small or good sized right size. So therefore you really want to get involved with Beta Gamma Sigma with organizations with faculty. It is really easy because we have a good size, not too big, not too small just to give you some ideas. We have associations like the Society for the Advancement of Management.
So we will get to see by the idea of all the management and he's only management, but actually you participate in the competitions of Sam. You need someone from finance, unique people from accountancy, unique people, from marketing to form really good teams. So we've been very successful win awards and again. But I really like about you IS is that if you want to join you can join? We want to be a leader. You can be a leader.

You want to create a completely new Association Ray to marketing to accountancy. Whatever it is there space for you, there's opportunity for you here. And you know, maybe you go to a much, much larger college you might have. You know 10 people wanted to be president of the organization and there's 250 members and you know there's a little bit of those are engaged. All the stuff here you have a good group of people, all of them engage, and that's something that I really find.
Carly Leffel
01:21:53 PM
Wonderful, welcome!
Important here, you are. Yes, you want to be a leader. You can be a leader here.
As I mentioned before, May Sotelo is one of the advisors from our program, and by the way, the people are in this page like Miss Thornhill, Robert Thomson and Greer. All of them are fantastic advisors and is one of the things that I like the most about you IS or we take advice in really seriously.
All of them are really professional, really cordial, really friendly, and you know, they've they're amazing. I've work in other universities in other places. I will say names, but there's you have no idea how good or team is in advising. I I I respect them and really, whatever problem and you may have many questions you may have their helpful and their advocates. They advocate for you.
All of the time. So anyway, so feel free to talk to any of them to Miss Roberts Thompson Greer Thornhill there, here to help. And of course be so tell when she returns from her maternity leave.
Again, if you have any questions, let us know.
So let me tell you about which programs do we have available. I add you, yes, alright?
And by the way, if you have not never been to campus.
We are on the 4th floor. You know the officer in the 4th floor of the building that you can see and most of our classes on the 1st floor. So it's not really nice. Building is a wonderful place to be. Unfortunately we're not there right now and you have no idea how much we missed to be there in person is definitely something that we want to be there and will be there soon. So anyway, there's basically three departments in our college and each one offers different.
Programs, for example, the Department that we call AF. We offer a degree in accountancy, a degree in economics anabi BA in finance. So we like to call them.
The money Department, because they are all related money. Then we have the more on the more technical side we have BS in MIS. And when people ask about MISI would say that is where computer science and.
Administration you know to to coach, right? There is a is a combination of both. You need to have all the skills of our business person, but also you get quite a bit of the technical side.
More specifically, we we will have a healthcare informatics concentration in MIS and these four people I want to work at hospitals and so on and so forth in technology. Then we have the what we call EM. Oh, and there's pretty much in charge of the comprehensive program, which is a broad business ministration degree were basically you learn about management, marketing, finance and so on and so forth is a very broad degree. You want to be more specific with human resources.
Which it would be wonderful. You want to work in a Department like that? Or if you thinking about a career that combines psychology.
How to work with people? How to motivate people. Human Resources is a wonderful place to be. We have DBA management, marketing and sport management. So anyway, as you can see we offer all kinds of programs, very different in many ways, but we have certain things in common. First thing we have in common is that we have a quite a bit. Of course is that we call the core courses or all of our students. They can finance, they take.
A marketing course to accountancy courses etc. So we have a lot of you know outside not but we are. We have a lot of commonalities at the start of your program and that's why people can change majors easily. You know they take they believe that.
They like economics. They do economics, but then they go to marketing. As you know what is very related economics and marketing, but I prefer marketing or they go to a management course and say this is exactly what I wanted. So switching majors is not that complicated, at least at the beginning. Becausw again we share a lot of coursework at the start of your time at UAS.
So very quickly some will stuff that happens in each major. As I mentioned, we had a measure of arts in economics and we have really good relationships at state and federal agencies. I'm always amazed that is a small program, but most of our students you know if not all, they find jobs fairly quickly because it's they learn skills are quite unique.
And some of our students go for double majors we have. I would say many, but some like killing killing Smith. This picture here is political science and economics and I don't remember where he's working right now, but he's he's doing well.
We also have a Center for business regulation, so you're interested in in that area of regulation. We have faculty members at teaching that area, and they do research in that area and same thing. They're able to help students find jobs, find internships because they're really well connected to different corporations.

Can GMAT be waived for an MBA applicant who have GPAs : 3.2 and 3.4 at both undergraduate and masters ( graduate) levels with a six years working experience?
Accountancy is a is a wonderful program and by the way they have a great Association. The Students accounting society. I forgot about that one before. It's a very active society and they're the ones that open quite a bit. Opportunities offer cold case opportunity to engage with alumni and employers and they even have their own little career. So your accountant is fairly easy to.
To find a job through Association like this and other opportunities as well, your instincts, and they're really helpful. They are knowledgeable. They pretty much can help you in any way that they can to make sure that you can reach this goal of the CPA, which has first. I know it's not an easy thing as I mentioned before, the MIS great program actually or highest rank program.
Online graduate program that we have in our college we have. They have excellent professors for each and each one is a researcher they have.
Ties with the industry of all kinds of. For example, today we had a meeting with a local bank and we were talking about cyber security with them and we came up with some ideas to put together a research project with them and that comes from faculty that have great research that really good at working with students and also they are able to work with local industries. So if you're interested in MIS, you could end up working with any of these faculty member in a project for a company.
As I mentioned, the BA is pretty comprehensive. We have all of this together and two of them are available online. The comprehensive management you want to do that and there are all kinds of leadership. As I mentioned, opportunities as well as internships. This is something is common to all measures. By the way. You need to have an internship by before you finish your degree here at UAS.
We help you find one. We have a really good system to make sure that you get one and that definitely you are not just going to get a degree and internship that is.
Making coffee every day. They're real internships and some of them.
End up in a job opportunity and I'll talk more about that in a second. So anyway, be BA programs, comprehensive human resource. They're wonderful programs, and you can specialize in any of these and.
Carly Leffel
01:31:05 PM
Great question Adeomi, we will pose that question to Dr. Villegas!
They're very helpful for you to find jobs later on. As I mentioned something that makes us quite unique is that we have this internships that required. Again, they are required. We want you to be out there and doing an internship and this internship is not just, you know, let's make you do photo copies or PDFs or what have you. These are pretty much the closest thing to a job that you can think of. You have to do marketing.
Programs you might need to do some accountancy related activities etc.
An you do we amaze or how many of these opportunities end up to end up in real jobs? You know the people that stay in the company and if they don't stay they create good network that they help them find the next job. Some of our students do not do an internship for different reasons and that's fine. It happens every now and then but we strongly recommend people to get internships and we have a great community here that believes that in.
UA students and they're always asking for students and today truth.
We've never had an issue where student could not find an internship there. We have more internship opportunities than students. I would say pretty much every year and most of them are completely related to your major. So your sport management you may end up working gym in one of the local teams. For example, you work for in marketing. You may end up working in.
Doing an internship. A Systemax, which is a local company. So on we were interested. If you are, for example, from the Chicago area, we can help you find something in Chicago. Or if you want something to internationally, we've done that as well. Those are you can maybe not. Not very easy to put together, but we can and something that is very important to us is that this internships there. Part of our understand.
Or we try to assess if if our students are.
Good project that are professional that work hard. They know there, not that they have the tools necessary to succeed in the business world. So we talk to the supervisors a couple of times to make sure that you are doing a good job. We have advisor from the OR college who is in charge of making sure that you're doing. You're doing a good job there. So anyway is.
A wonderful program and I've never seen something like this before in any other University, so I'm very proud of what we do here.
So our students, well, they find jobs when they if they want to. In the most cases a good number for students end up going for something else. They want to continue their education and some of the state with us and I'll talk about that in a second. Some others might not.
We have graduates working in all kinds of companies in the government and Memorial Horsemen's. Desmith really pretty much anywhere in Illinois. You can find a student from UAS and from a programming specific. So any anyway, I think we're fairly successful in helping students find jobs and preparing them for these jobs.
Of course, things can continue the grad programs here we have treatment programs. They may, in accountancy, the NBA and the Ms in MIS. One of the cool things about our programs is that you can get your education without paying much because you can get a graduate assistantship or something. We call the DPS. I both are great programs. You work for UAS or you work for us.
Agency, we pay pretty much for everything, so I tell this to all my students getting an MBA.
Without no debt whatsoever, that doesn't happen is very, very unique that we're able to do that, that we're able to offer you a DJ or a GPS. I position where you can work.
For 20 hours and be able to pay to not pay a cent for your graduate education. Again, quite unique for an MBA program to be able to do that or a name in accountancy and so on and so forth. And you want to know more about or graduate programs. I'd be glad to chat with you later or if you want to send an email or something.
Alright, so that's pretty much it and I'm sorry if I didn't read, you know the chat until now. I was busy doing this so this is in general the College of Business Management. As I mentioned before.
I really like this place because I I really like the size. You know I don't have to deal in a class with 150 students, 200 students.
Or on the flip side, I don't have a class with three students, right? Which is a.
He works, but I I prefer like the 15 to 25 to 35. That's a good number and the other thing is that if you want to be a leader.
You can be a leader here. You want to do internships every semester or every year will help you with that. You want to do double majors and one major might be political science and marketing. We can help you with that because we have the right size. We have great people that can help you. We have faculty that does research and you want to do research with them. They're more than willing to help and I think right now there's at least.
I would say 20% of the faculty they're working right now with undergrad students on research projects.
Alright, so that's pretty much it.
So you have any questions? I'm going to start reading them. Read here OK?
Yeah, thank you so much. Doctor Vegas so that yeah, I mean and we do have a question in the chat and that kind of concludes the presentation so we will look at the questions. So yes, we did have a question from a student who asked can the GMAT be waived for an MBA applicant who has a GPA? It looks like 3.2 and 3.4 at both their undergraduate and Masters.
Degree schools with also six years of working experience.
It really depends on well, the GPA might be OK because what we do we use a formula for this.
Ah, but let me see. Yeah, I think you would need to talk to the new because we we have a new director of the MBA, professor Nathan. Still, he's the one that would know more about it. The six years of working experience could could help you on that.
In general, but I can tell you is that we want to see in those years of experience to have what we call managerial experience. Managerial means that have you managed people before, so you have.
Own your own business. I think that that's a valid thing. You manage a team of 3, four people, that that's fine, but you have been working. And I know sales exclusively then that that's where the manager experience might require more than that to to get it without going without Gmail. But the best thing to do is to contact the NBA office and as the as the question.

http://catalog.uis.edu/admissionsrequirements/businessadmin/
Yeah, great thank you Ann. I've also put in the chat. Here is a link to our catalog that has the admission requirements for the Business Administration program an. From what it looks like and I've worked with a couple of MBA students who have been wanting to waive that GMAT. And usually if you do like you know where that GPA is, it sounds like that would be an undergrad GPA that they would probably waive the GMAT foreign, especially if you also do have that working experience.
Um, you know that is something I I would still you know, as Doctor Vega said, I would follow up with the MBA program just in case. But it sounds like that would probably want you to be able to get that GMAT waiver. And just so you know, on the admission side on your application, it is going to stay as like it'll say, awaiting with a red X by it. And that's because we first have to look at your application admission. Then we send it to the MBA program and they're the ones who come back to us and say yes.
You we you know I'm confirming that you can waive that GMAT. So don't be, don't stress out if it's not waived right away. We have to get that confirmation from the MBA program.
I know you have an advantage because now you know that what we're looking for. So when you write the MBA, please make sure that you write my. My manager experience is in this supervising, managing money, managing people, managing something right? So that's really what we're looking for, not only to tell me, you know. I work for six years at this company.
But but I need to know what what they were doing there.
Yeah, great point Dr Vegas so it doesn't look like we have anymore student questions. And you know, if you if any of you do have questions, please put it in the chat. We do have about 5 more minutes but I have a question so can you talk a little bit about innovate? Springfield because I know that our College of Business and management students have used it before.
Hilda Emamezi
01:41:39 PM
My major is management, can i focus on Human resource management
Sure, I think thanks for doing that. So we have as part of UI S this center called Innovate Springfield and is an incubator of business. And just by the mere fact of being a student of your. Yes you remember or innovate Springfield and you can. Well, you know.
In regular times you could go there anytime, see.
Have a wife. I have a Cup of coffee and talk to intrapreneurs that are there, usually not in the morning. 'cause entrepreneurs are more like a night owls. So somewhere around 5:00 PM you will find them working. And really if you have an idea, you go there. You talk to people they have every now and then lawyers going visit the office or you can talk about any legal issues you want to talk to someone that knows over certain technology that you don't know about.
They can help you with that. I take my students there, you know, so they can see the installations and they can talk to people and people. You know it's always good to network. It's a great place to network. We have events even now or we are all online. But we have programs like that. So anyway, is definitely one of those resources that we have available. And just as I mentioned, just like the.
And associations if you want to is there, you know. I take students and faculty in vertex students, but the end of the day is your motivation to create new things. Is your motivation to work with entrepreneurs in the area?

Thanks for answering my questions raised professionally. I had my B.sc in Business Administration and also hold an MBA degree already, all from Nigerian university
Awesome, yeah, it's a really unique resource we have for students in Springfield now. We did have another question from another student. My major is management. Can I focus on human resource management?
Sure, absolutely. Now we have. And this is the brand new program. Now we have a.
BBL ABCA concentration in human resource management? So yeah, you can take your specialization in HRHR and we have create new people working with us in HR and I we have a lot of hope that is going to be one of our strongest programs at UAS because we have great faculty.
Awesome, now something else that this might be our last question it you know if we don't get another student one, but I'm going back to this slide. Can you tell us what's in the background there?
Oh sure, it is a financial ticker sometime well early this year. The Dean of the College decided to do some fundraising. So now we have this financial ticker where we display, you know, financial data, and it's when we're on campus is a wonderful thing to have that so you can read news financial news. You can see how the stock market is moving.
And it also reflects or interesting finance. For example, we're going to have an Ms in finance, and now students have access to real time data financial data, which again that's really expensive. But we believe that students deserve to get that kind of fortunity
I thought that was so cool. I I saw that while I was walking through HP and I'm like wow, what is that so very? Another cool great tool for RCBM students.
Oh yeah, yeah, definitely. I will continue doing that if he says our human resource management will put resources to make sure that the students are, you know, the best in the in the state, for sure.
