Welcome, everybody. My name is Rebecca Johnson. I'm part of the admissions team here at the University of Illinois Springfield. Before we get started with the presentation today, I have a couple of housekeeping items to go over so that you are aware this webinar is being recorded and will be made available for viewing afterwards. So don't feel like you need to take frantic notes. Today, within your shared screen, you will see there's a button for closed captioning. It's in the top right bar.
CC button. You can click that and turn on closed captioning. You can also next to it is a button to make the video full screen if you would like to do that as well. If you need to resync your audio or video at any point, refresh your browser and that should clear things up.
As for questions, I'll be helping monitoring the chat along with some of our guests here today. We'd love to hear your questions in the chat. Feel free to post those throughout the presentation. We'll go through those questions at the end of the session. And so if we don't answer it right away, please don't worry, we will get to it at the end. There are many folks joining us today which we love to see and we're happy you're all here. So without further ado, I would like to turn the presentation over to Nathan, Ashley and Deb. And thank you all very much for joining us today.
Hi everybody. Welcome to the the session on the MBA program programs. I'm Nathan Steele, the director of the program as well as an associate professor here at US and I also teach one of the core classes. Ashley is our primary MBA advisor. She advises students on their their progress through the academic curriculum and how to finagle those courses around to fit their their desires.

Welcome everyone!
To meet their needs. As far as the timeline, Deb is the director of our graduate accelerated programs and so she has the the helm of not only the online MBA, but a lot of our other online masters programs and she's a primary contact point for those assets. So here to talk to you guys about the MBA program today. So why should you choose UIS for your MBA? First off, we are AACSB accredited. This is less than 6%.
Of schools worldwide that are AACSB accredited, it's the highest level of accreditation for a Business School. We have a new format as of a couple of years ago for our MBA program where we do eight week sessions that are effectively half semesters, but they allow you through an accelerated format to approach an MBA with as little as one full year so you can start and finish an MBA program in the same calendar year. There are only a total of 30 required.
Credit hours. So effectively 10 courses, and that includes electives that can be applied toward a certificate. As we're going to talk about, our MBA is offered in a blended format to make it more flexible and to make it meet your needs better if you're working. If you want to work part time, there are also opportunities to do things like GPA ships or graduate public service internships through university programs, not only to supplement your income and get.
The tuition remission, but also to garner some experience. Even if you're an international student, those graduate public service internships are still available through the program.
This flexibility allows students to really self define how they're going to approach the program and how they'd like to consume that MBA degree at their own pace. You can do it as in as little as a year. You can take as much time as you like as well. The admissions criteria include a bachelor's degree from accredited college or university. If you have a GPA above 2.5 or at 2.5, we don't require GMAT, we actually waive that GMAT requirement. But if you are below 2.5.
Some 2.49 down to 2.0, we will require GMAT score and that is effectively advised to you by your your advisor what that score needs to be based on a calculation that involves that Q1 of GPA. Although we do make some rare exceptions for work related experience, if you have three or more years of supervisory or managerial level experience that can be supplemented and we consider that on a case by case basis.
The prerequisites include microeconomics and macroeconomics, financial and managerial accounting, which we have collapsed into a single course, and this is for students that don't have an undergraduate business degree. If you have an undergraduate business degree, undergraduate accounting degree, you'll often not necessarily need these prerequisite courses. And then business perspectives is a course that basically covers the entire remainder of it, from finance to marketing to strategy to sort of.
Bring everybody up to speed and make sure everybody is starting their MBA degree with the same sort of tools and their tool belt in order to approach those topics. Once you start the program, there are, as I mentioned, effectively 10 course requirements. You've got the cores that are 7. So you've got managerial accounting and accounting and you've got marketing management and productions and operations management. Organizational behavior, which is the course that I teach. Business strategy is our capstone course and so it's taken.
And the the last term of the cycle, managerial, finance and information technology management, which are all core courses that will help you acquire the understanding of business technology management skills, how to market, how to convert, you know ROI. And then you also choose three 500 level courses of your own choosing as elective credits. The great thing about the way we've developed the MBA program.
Jorjo Njie
02:06:19 PM
Thank you.
Because those three courses can be anything you be choosing as long as they're 500 level. But we've developed 8 certificates actually going on, 9 certificates that have effectively 3 courses as well as potentially a core course from the MBA program engaged with them. And so you can complete any of these certificate courses without any additional time or any additional fees on your MBA program. So you can get an undergraduate non degree certificate in applied finance.

What are the concentration available in the MBA program?
Business analytics, business process management, entrepreneurship, healthcare management, human resource management is a very popular one IT project management, operations and supply chain management and we're getting ready to roll out an accounting analytics program in the fall of 2023. So these would be representative of I I see you asking this question. The concentrations, we don't actually have formal concentrations, rather we offer certificates and.
In addition to the program content, so you can tell an employer that you achieved a specific certificate, one of these special skill sets alongside that MBA program. All of this will effectively give you the potential to approach careers as a financial advisor, a management analyst, going investment banking, become a finance manager, analyst that relies very well with our Applied Finance Certificate which is also very popular on information technology manager, marketing Manager, HR manager which aligns well with the.
Birth certificate or even a business consultant. So there's a lot of opportunity out there, especially with these certificate programs as effective concentrations. And if you need to reach out to us at any point after this presentation, there's some contact information here. This should be your your first stop shop for contacting us for information about any of the MBA programs on the phone number goes straight to Ashley and as does the e-mail address and I also respond to my emails as well and.

Do you have full Scholarship opportunities in the MBA programs or GA positions that cover full tuition ?
I'd welcome any contact from you, but now I can kind of open the floor up to any questions that you might have. I believe there are separate presentations also from the Graduate Public Service internship program as well as the graduate assistantship programs that are available during this series of grad week.
Full scholarship opportunities. So the full scholarship opportunities would be the GA ships or the gypsies. Gypsies is graduate public service internship. Either of those programs, I believe, comes with full tuition remission. They are competitive and they have to apply for them and you have to go through an interview process and be selected. But I believe they offer full tuition remission and I know that the gypsies in addition to that offer a stipend as well. So it's it's effectively full time work, well, part time work during certain terms.
And then full time during the summers.
No, I was just gonna add, there is a presentation for funding your graduate education on Thursday at 11:00 AM Central time. So you're welcome to also sign up for that presentation. If you're not able to attend like this presentation, it is going to be recorded. So you can certainly watch it after the fact as well.
And I'll say this, the Gypsy program is phenomenal, especially for students coming internationally to us because of the way that the the payment is made, it processes through the university. And so it doesn't require the same work permissions that otherwise working in the states might if you're an international student.
Still get an opportunity to get hands on work experience with one of the public agencies in the state of Illinois alongside getting your MBA and having that tuition remitted.
Not see any other questions. If you have any, please feel free to ask.
Annas Yussif

Hi everyone
I know one question that a lot of our international students do ask, or even students may be coming from out of state, is kind of what that estimated cost might be after that GA position is applied or that graduate public service internship is applied. And typically it ranges between about 12 to $15,000 a year that students would still have to pay out of pocket after those funding opportunities are there. And so it does really make this graduate program very affordable.
Option for students, especially if you're not an Illinois resident. Now, if you're an Illinois resident, it makes it an even more affordable option because you don't have to pay that non resident tuition piece. So again, I encourage you to attend that program on Thursday and if there are any other questions you have for our MBA program, we certainly welcome them.

Do you offer Application fee waivers and when is application opened for Fall 2023
Lydia Schillinger
02:10:55 PM
Is this program covered by my tuition waiver?
So we are charging application fees again starting for fall 2023. At the graduate level there are not any waivers available, so that would be a fee you would have to pay when you submit your application to USCIS.
Jorjo Njie
02:11:23 PM
Has the selection rounds of GA and GPSI already been done?
And then ask for a question about the tuition waiver. Uh, Lydia, I encourage you to reach out to the admissions office. Maybe we need a little bit more information about that, depending on what type of waiver you're looking at.
So the selection round for the fall for GA and Gypsy has already been conducted. Typically I believe the deadline is in March for a fall starting position for those the GA ships, though I think some of those roll out in the in the springs as well and so those can be selected on an as needed basis I know.
We actually had a couple of issues with visas for one of our gas and so we have to wait until spring for them to start. But sometimes a department finds itself hiring a GA in the spring.

02:12:11 PM
Please if i start an application for spring 2023, and i defer the admission to fall 2023, would I still need to pay a new application fee? Or would this be waived?
Another question I get or what are some of the job outcomes that a lot of students have after they graduate with their MBA? And are students able to go on to an opt extension if they're an international student on a visa?
Johnny Soyoye
02:12:19 PM
How many slots for GA every academic year do you accept?
Lydia Schillinger
02:12:20 PM
Is their a format that has in person classes or are they all online? (the program covered by our tuition waiver as a full time employee, I will reach out to admissions)
Mariama Conateh
02:12:28 PM
Are there any qualifications concerning getting the GA and GPSI?
So we've got a question about if somebody applies for spring 23 and then defers to fall 23, would they still need to pay a new application fee or would it be waived?
Charles, I'll reach out to you separately because that's kind of a unique situation.
GA should. It's a it's a finite number of them, but there are a large number of them and I believe that some go unfilled every year. I know GPSI's they're always some that go unfilled. Even though it's a great opportunity, we don't always have as many applicants as we do positions.
Lydia Schillinger
02:13:05 PM
I heard Dr Steele say the classes are flexible and from Kathryn the classes are mostly in the evening. (Is this different from this online accelerated program
So the person classes, OK, so the on Campus MBA is actually what we call a blended format, meaning that 2/3 of the coursework will be effectively in person and then a third of it can be effectively online. But it's it's a format wherein you would normally if it were an on ground class you'd meet twice a week, but instead typically what instructors will do, what I do is I, I make the first day of the week in asynchronous online. So everybody gets.
Rebecca Johnson
02:13:35 PM
Mariama - I encourage you to attend the session on THursday or to watch the recording afterward
Access to some lecture materials, some readings they discussed together, and then we meet on a different night of the week on Wednesday together to talk about it. To provide the one of the greater opportunities of the MBA program, which is the networking opportunity with your fellow students and professionals in the Community, and to discuss any problems that they might otherwise have.
Lydia Schillinger
02:14:04 PM
thank you!
Let's see qualifications concerning getting the GA and Gypsy. Like I said, those are competitive. The GA and Gypsies are competitive. There are requirements for the Gypsy that are, I think, a little higher standard than for the GA ships, but you'll be competing based on things like cumulative GPA, experience, those kinds of things.
Abednego Mayonu
02:14:18 PM
Can you share the email address of the program coordinator for the MBA program for further consultation ?
Mariama Conateh
02:14:44 PM
Thank you Rebacca
Most classes, in fact all of them I believe are in the evening. This is different from the online accelerated program in that the online accelerated program is completely online and so that one is fully asynchronous. There are no in person meetings and we largely use that to deploy to to students that otherwise wouldn't have access to our campus. If you're wanting to come to the campus, you can do the on campus degree program and a lot of times international students will seek that out because of the requirement that.
They they take on campus classes to a certain proportion.
E-mail address of the program coordinator. Yes, let me get over there. Here we go.
So there's the program coordinator and and phone numbers and address for future contact.
And of course this will be on the recorded version of this video as well.
