06:08:29 PM
I made my housing deposit already, what is the next step?
Trevon E.
06:08:35 PM
I have not received my application for housing. When might that be? If you know?
How are y'all doing, uh, sorry about that technical difficulty. We did chest us out earlier and and I had a few little bumps, but thank you again all for joining us and thank you Catherine for introductions. Hope you're able to enjoy that video and we're going to keep going with our presentation here, and please do continue entering questions in the chat box and we'll get to those as we go. So we talked about. We do have four distinct living communities on Rus campus, and I wanted to make sure that you were able to see kind of the layout of the spaces that we have on campus. So the first.
Zamya W.
06:09:04 PM
Can we pick which resident hall we want to reside in?
Yeah we have here is for Lincoln residence Hall and this is typically a a suite style room. So there are two people living in each bedroom and four people that share the bathroom there. Additionally, in founders residence Hall, it's a similar setup. The rooms are a little bit different size, but they're also about the same size as Lincoln residence Hall, and again, it's two people core room and there is a bathroom for all four to share. I would share in both of the residence halls. We do have some private spaces that we do.
Ah, offer as accommodation spaces for those who needed and or sometimes purchas people can purchase the private spaces, and those are two residence halls.
Now we go over to our West campus townhomes. This is typically where are upper class students, so sophomores, juniors and seniors will reside. These are two story units where there are 4 bedrooms. Each bedroom has one person living in it and each bathroom is shared by two of the bedrooms. So again there's four people that live in these spaces with two bathrooms. There is a full kitchen, living room and storage spaces in these as well.
Jackson G.
06:10:03 PM
I have a disability that my fiancé knows how to manage, but we need an apartment. I have applied but do you know when we would get notice on when/if we get it?
Adnan K.
06:10:14 PM
Are there exists single bed apartment please?
And we also have our East Campus Apartments. This is a summer set up, but these are usually mostly single story apartments where there are 4 bedrooms. One person living in each bedroom and two bathrooms with a full kitchen and a living room. And against this would have four people in two bathrooms. Similar are Larkspur Court and Clover court as well as sunflower cord. The unique part about this is this is where a lot of our again upper division students, graduate students and Families will choose to live on campus.
Logan B.
06:10:29 PM
how close are the ceilings to a bed with a loft kit, I'm quite tall and don't want to hit my head when i sit up?
So few pieces about what it means for us as residence life to ride service and a home for every one of our students here at uas our goals as a department for residence life is to create an inclusive community environment.
To support both academic and personal growth.
Primarily to provide a safe living learning environment for all of our students here at uas.
And to engage with each of you through excellent customer service.
Through this, we help each student residing with us will live, learn and lead as well as work collaborative within a diverse community. And this is this is the goals and vision that we set for our our staff to make sure that we can meet the needs of each one of our students who live on campus and each one of our community members here at Uas.
Ah, what is it? What about amenities? Here at uas, there's a lot of great variety of amenities with housing. We have free laundry and so there are laundry rooms on every floor in the residence halls. There are laundry rooms in every area of the town. Homes and there're laundry rooms in every apartment area, and these previously were fee based laundry. But we have changed that to free laundry for all students who live on campus. We also do provide great Wi-Fi and Ethernet to all of our residential spaces on campus.
And that depending on the space there are Ethernet hookups in most spaces, and there is Wi-Fi across all of our environments on campus.
Also included in the fee for living with us, our utilities, so water power. All of that is included. We do provide maylan package services, so each of the residence halls has a front desk where your Mail and packages can be delivered and picked up, and in the townhomes and apartments we have Mail and packages in our home or Butler Commons building which where you also what we can accept your packages and sign them out to you. There's also a lot of great transportation options. Obviously for those students were able they can bring vehicles to campus with a parking pass.
Trevon E.
06:12:27 PM
Are there Co Ed dorm rooms?
Nick M.
06:12:27 PM
Utility price doesn't fluctuate based on usage, correct?
We also have our bus service that goes all over the city of Springfield that comes through campus everyday with multiple times an hour.
Nyah B.
06:12:31 PM
Will this presentation be shared with us via email as well?
Savannah L.
06:12:39 PM
How much are the parking passes?
Zamya W.
06:12:39 PM
Can incoming freshman also bring cars?
And we also have cab and other services will bring students back and forth to the Amtrak station in town.
Nazeerah M.
06:12:52 PM
Do we have to pay for parking passes?
We also finally have living staff support, so in each of our communities we do have residential assistance who are students here at uas to help promote the community and security of each of our community spaces. We have Additionally full-time staff that live in the communities who up supervisors resident assistance to make sure that every person is taken care of and everyone's needs are met.
Selena G.
06:14:28 PM
How do you apply to Honors Program?
Zamya W.
06:14:33 PM
Will there still be a Summer Bridge Program due to Covid 19?
Zamya W.
06:15:08 PM
What if we wanted to be doctors instead of nurses? Can we still do the program?
Nazeerah M.
06:15:14 PM
Will we be able to move in on time due to covid 19?
Nick M.
06:16:12 PM
Is there a price alteration being a part of a living-learning community?
Now some of them are fun things. I like to talk about. Two are living learning communities, so we have five specific living. Learning communities are part of our first and 2nd year student experience and beyond. The first is leadership for life and that is really a service and leadership program for first year living learning community where students are able to be admitted to that and they take some classes together as well as they do service and civic engagement throughout the community of Springfield on our campus community.
Our second living learning community is students transitioning for academic retention in success or what we like to call star stars living learning community.
It provides an increased academic support for students seeking to achieve specific academic goals and on going academic success throughout their career. So these students would also be able to live together. There's a possibility of a virtual summer bridge program as well as the sophomore students helping with that summer bridge program, and it really is helping to connect students with those resources on campus that they need directly. The third one is our pre nursing pathways living learning community. This living language community helps students who are looking to go into.
The nursing program to be successful in the first 2 years, there's a lot of study tips. There's a lot of academic advising and a lot of ability to help you get connected to our University of Illinois, Chicago, Springfield Regional campus of the nursing program. So students in this program will spend the first 2 years as you S students, and then we help them transition to be University Illinois, Chicago, Springfield Regional Campus nursing students. So it's a great opportunity for you to be part of a great small campus community and get your first two years in to get into the nursing program.
Through the Chicago School.
Our 4th program is capital. Scholar's honors program. Are we refer to his cap honors? It is, uh.
Umar S.
06:17:06 PM
Will we be allowed to resume as international students
For graduate academic program design for the first and second year of the four year here experience here cap honor students have a residency requirements. So they are required to live on campus for both years, which is a little different than our other residency requirement log, which will get you after this slide, but cap honor students do have to apply to be a part of that program and they do take a number of courses together and there is support services in that community for those students.
The 5th living learning community we have is necessary steps and mentoring program. This is a program specifically for first generation college students that are defined. The students who parents and Guardians have not graduated from a four year college or institution. This program is designed to assist in the transition from high school to college as well as transforming our students and scholars and the nice piece with this program again with all five of these, you do get assigned to live with people from these living learning communities, but also there are specific support staff throughout the University.
To help to make sure that each of our first year students and specifically are living learning, these students are successful here, uas.
Trevon E.
06:17:38 PM
Are there Co Ed Dorms?
So one thing I did mention in that previous slide is we do have a residency requirement here for our first and 2nd year students. So any student coming to uas who has less than 60 recognized uas credits and lives far their permanent home address is farther than 40 miles from campus. We do expect them to live on campus for the first two years, and we do hope that as residence life staff were able to provide a great experience for anyone who's living on campus, they choose to live on campus for their duration of their time here, as students at UIS.
J'Naiya F.
06:17:59 PM
Do we still have orientation?
And so I don't want to cover that piece as I transition to the roommate assignment slide, so this is always an important topic. You know how to roommates get assigned? If I have to have a roommate, what does that look like? So the first pieces, especially for our incoming students, we have a software program called room sink, and it's ultimately like a.
An inventory taken complete where we will be able to match up people who have similar interests, similar lifestyles, and are able to really meet the needs of our students in that way. And so that's something that we asked each of our incoming students to complete her first year or transfer students again that are required to live on campus. And then we ask that through this you complete the software and we do this in the month of June every year. The other piece of that is I would say there are other components to housing assignments and so.
Nazeerah M.
06:18:20 PM
What is the visitors rule for freshmen?
Citlaly V.
06:18:30 PM
will orientation dates be pushed because of COVID-19?
A peace with room sink is that's that's the first step. Our second step is also identifying the years of school you been into and your class standing, 'cause that also impacts where you live on campus. We also look at if you're part of a living learning community. As I mentioned previously, that's an important piece. And then if you're a family housing or graduate student, those are all impacted on how we assign roommates or how we allow individuals to sign up for spaces. And so, as we kind of talked through before Lincoln Residence Hall.
Confounding residence Hall are both spaces for 1st and 2nd year students. Some of our second year students then transition to the townhomes with some juniors and seniors and then we have junior seniors, graduate students and families who all reside over on our East Campus Apartments.
And so an important factor for us is also gender inclusive housing. So if there are individuals who choose to live 'cause all of our assignments are based off of either family housing assignments or the predominant entities of male and female. But we do look to find those who are not necessarily in the Binary Spectrum for gender to be able to live with one another. And that's a process that go through for our office where individuals apply through our office and we sign people based off of their desires.
And wishes for where they would like to live.
Zamya W.
06:19:04 PM
What are we allowed to have in the dorm? Are there certain things we can’t bring/do?
Uh, the overseas as again kind of looping back to Elsies. It's important to note that for living learning communities we try to be very intentional about how we assign those individuals and they were putting them in the same sweets or same townhomes as part of those living learning communities and so that would be so the cap honor students would be assigned in the same suite or the necessary steps. Mentoring program students would be assigned in the same sweet. It would necessarily be.
You know with other people from other else's, but we would make sure that we can get you all together in the similar suites in the residence halls.
And what if you know someone you want to live with her? That's a big, important question, right? So, you know, we're not. We don't force you to live with people you don't want to other than we do say, if you have someone you know you want to live with here on campus when you apply for Camp Housing, you'll make sure that you want to make include their name and student ID number on your application as a roommate request.
Trevon E.
06:19:54 PM
Can that person be opposite sex or has to be same sex?
If you already applied and didn't include that information, but now have that information about someone who's coming here to campus, you can email rez life@uis.edu in regard to requesting that individual too.
So next steps, these are important pieces and we're getting to the questionnaire section here in just a moment. So step one if you have not yet, be sure to review housing options and submit your $150 security deposit. It's refundable. $200 deposit at the time. You just leave you IS and a $50 application fee which is non refundable. Step 2 is we will Mail you a deposit confirmation later once you've processed your security deposit and send you a link to the online housing application contracts.
Adnan K.
06:20:35 PM
Okay, Since social distances are in practice so what about this in classes ?
The first step is submitting that security deposit. The second step is we will email you with a link to fill out the online housing application.
Nick M.
06:20:42 PM
You will mail it to us?
Zamya W.
06:21:00 PM
He said they will email it to us.
We will send you a link then for those incoming students will send you a link to room sink, an app that helps again match you with potential remains. Once you found your match email as your main request and so the nice part about that is you can actually see in room sink people who have common interests in similar interests to you so you can have a selection of individuals we can request to meet is similar to.
Savannah L.
06:21:25 PM
If i submitted my deposit awhile ago, will I get my confirmation letter soon?
And I related to kind of Facebook. Any matching with friends that you you know and people who are similar and Step 4 if you apply no later than June 15th you receive your assignment and roommate information by July 10th. If you apply after June 15th, you will receive your assignment information 30 days before the start of the semester, and so I think that's just an important piece and I did it. I link in here the housing application, but you can find that on our website which I will show you here on the next slide.
And these are general contact information for residents life. It includes our email address, are building location or phone number.
And our website and important piece I want to cover here and I wasn't able to run through it on on this.
Presentation is we do have virtual tours of all of our spaces, and so if you go to our website you can actually.
Dylan T.
06:21:55 PM
What is the last day we can apply
Slap yourself inside of our apartments and townhomes. An residence Hall rooms as well as common areas and see what it looks like to actually be in those spaces. And with our residence Hall rooms, we actually have them decorated so you can see what it be like to actually be living in that space, so I think it's an important thing that I want to point out so that you could take time after this and kind of navigate that on your own 'cause I know each person have individual questions in regards to that.
So I'm going to go back and start answering some questions here on the side. Please feel free to continue entering them in as as as you have more.
Selena G.
06:22:30 PM
Can I go back to my home on the weekends or do I have to stay on campus till break?
Nazeerah M.
06:22:33 PM
Do we pick the residents hall?
Trevon E.
06:22:35 PM
Are There Co Ed Dorms?
Nick M.
06:22:57 PM
I submitted my deposit and never received an application link.
Jackson G.
06:22:59 PM
I have a disability that my fiancé knows how to manage, but we need an apartment. I have applied but do you know when we would get notice on when/if we get it? I have paid the $250, but Im not sure if we have gotten an email about it.
OK, when do you find out if I have received the apartment because I have applied about a month ago again, our assignments will be going out for incoming students in July. If you do have a specific questions you can always email us at rez. Life at USD you. But that is important. Pieces we try to the processes we have current students sign up and apply for housing and we just finished their their assignments and that will bring in all of our incoming students and assign you all through the process. As we talked about. Usually for apartments those those still will come out.
Around July 10, so that's our end goal, but if you do have specific questions, we'd be happy to answer them through the rez life email account.
Uhm, and then it looks like Cindy over here. Is there any apartments through the campus? And yes, we do have apartment specifically outlined, and as I mentioned, we work to assign students based off of class standing so that people can have some common interests across the apartment communities. So we have about.
About 800 beds worth of apartment spaces, and that's in the townhomes and apartments.
Citlaly V.
06:23:34 PM
when do you find out who your roommates will be? to contact them?
Katelyn H.
06:23:55 PM
How many loft kits are there?
Hannah asked how his roommate selection work and so I think I covered that pretty well. But if you have additional questions, feel free to type them down at the bottom. But we do again. If you have a specific person you'd like to live with, we would ask you to include their name and UI S ID number on your application, or you can send us an email rez life if you already submitted your application and then outside of that we would put everyone through room sink and you can select roommates there and submit your app. Your request through that.
Adnan K.
06:24:07 PM
I would like to express with request that I am a strong man in English Language and can read, write, speak, and can write please is requested to consider my application for admission plz/?
Zamya W.
06:24:29 PM
Can we work off campus?
Uh, none has asked. I have a question. Are there jobs on campus and there? Definitely a lot of employment opportunities on our campus. We have a lot of student employees that work in a lot of our departments, and So what we would do is refer you over to the Career Center and they have a program called career connect and we ask all students to apply there for all the student employment jobs on campus.
Michael S.
06:24:57 PM
Do we keep the dorm rooms throughout our college career, or do we get reassigned every year?
Valerie asked, are the floors Coed? And they are so our floor assignments in residence halls are based off of the sweet. So for instance if you were in 202 and 204 of founders residence Hall, that would all be either male identified or female identified individuals. And then unless it was a gender inclusive space and then that could be anyone of those genders or someone who is non binary and those spaces and then the next street over would also be could be any other gender makeup but.
Adnan K.
06:25:09 PM
Alright sir I got the answer for my Question its really a pleasure to know thank you dear sir .
OK, and then I have a question about are there married international student spaces on campus and there definitely are.
Valeria V.
06:25:38 PM
How is the security on campus?
We have a number of and that would be what we call our family, housing spaces and so individuals are married. We do sign the contract for the student themselves and then any family members and that would include spouses, domestic partners and or children could be assigned to live with that individual in those apartments and those come in different room setups in different selections and they can be furnished or unfurnished depending on the make up of what you're needing. But we do have family housing for married international students.
OK, and then housing deposit is already paid and what are the next steps? So once you've paid the deposit and I will say right now because of the COVID-19 were only managing those deposits about once a week right now, just because everyone is working remotely and we have to go into the office to manage that and so you should be getting the link to fill out your housing contract application after you filled out your deposit information and submit your deposit payment.
Citlaly V.
06:26:19 PM
As far as interships, do you have to apply as soon as you know you have been accepted? so you are not late for any opportunities.
Uh, again another question for that. So what I would ask for a linen Trevon if you have. If you paid the deposit more than a week ago and you haven't received your application, please email us at rez life at usc.edu.
Uh, can we pick which residents how we want to reside in somewhat? It kind of depends on again if you if you join a living learning community, what class standing are typically are? First year students would all reside in LRH&R second year students would reside in FRH and flow into the townhomes this last year we had a number of 1st year students in our H&FRH and so typically in the first year you would be living in RH but you could possibly in efforts depending on your major. If you're part of a living learning community. Most pieces.
Erol I.
06:27:11 PM
Cap students have to live in LRH for first two years?
So for for Jackson, really, if your fiance, well, if you're married by the time you would move to campus, you could be in family housing, but you can make a special request to also look at family housing, since your fancy knows how to help manage that. So yes, feel free. Feel free to apply for family housing and we can help you navigate there.
Citlaly V.
06:27:40 PM
Will roommates be based on how many credits we have?
Uh, and then there's another question about are there a single bedroom apartments? We have very limited number of single better apartments, but we do have some single bedroom apartments and those will be over at East campus. Just make sure you include that information in your housing application.
Jackson G.
06:28:10 PM
I paid the $250, but never received an email. What do I do?
Zamya W.
06:28:15 PM
Is there a specific day of the week that you go into the office to manage the housing applications? And do all service program like STARS, Nursing, etc live in the FHR hall?
So for a question about how close are the ceilings to the beds with the loft kit they are? I mean there's there's plenty of space still between the ceiling and 'cause we have a lot of taller ceilings in our room, so typically there's a good 5 five feet between the bed and the ceiling, and most of our rooms that does depend on which floor you're out in those pieces. But that is a piece, and if if that is a problem we also don't have you, don't you do not have to have a lot of kit. That's an option that we provide to students at when they move in in the fall.
Coed dorm rooms. Again, if there were individuals who wanted to live in gender inclusive housing, that would be a space where there would be Coed rooms specifically, but otherwise it's by speed.
Citlaly V.
06:28:36 PM
When is move-in day?
Utility prices do not fluctuate because we do not charge you specifically for utilities. We as a Department pay the utility fees per unit, but that is not an added cost for you. Pay a flat fee for staying on campus.
Will the presentation be shared with us if you email as well and I believe we can do that after the fact. Yes, we can make sure you get this presentation.
How much are parking passes for residential students there right around?
Asia D.
06:29:12 PM
So incoming freshmen do have their own restrooms?
Ailyn A.
06:29:29 PM
what if we do not move in due to covid19 and have to do e-learning , will we still have to pay for room and board?
And I believe it's around 85 or or $90.00 per year for parking passes. Can incoming freshmen also bring cars? Yes, incoming freshmen can bring cars to campus. We are. We are campus that has ample parking now it may not be necessary right next to your residence Hall room or or class. But we do have lots of parking in their specific spaces for a residential students who live on campus.
Do you have to pay for parking passes? Yes, if you want to bring your car to campus, you do have to pay that one time fee each year.
Uh, to apply for the Honors Program you want to go to the UI S website and search for capital scholars honors program and there will be more information on their website about that.
I will there be a summer bridge program due to COVID-19 there will be a summer bridge program, but it will be remote this summer. They're working through the details of that, but there is a plan to have a remote summer bridge program. Just because right now in Illinois we have a state home order and we're trying to navigate how best to support all of our students here.
What do you want to be doctors instead of nurses? Can you Sue the program? Yeah, definitely. I mean, you know, I think the prenursing pathways is a great way to get into the medical field regardless of what you want to do. And while it's focused on the nursing program to help you get a nursing program at University of Illinois, Chicago at the Springfield Regional campus, it is something you obviously could work towards. Being into a doctoral program too.

are kikcstart sessions going to be virtually, or is that not decided yet? Will we still need to pay the $175?
Will be able to move in on time due to cover 19. Right now our plan is to welcome all students to their home at uas in the fall. You know, as I think many people are aware, that COVID-19 100 keeps evolving and changing and we're very adaptable. But we do plan to welcome students to living back on campus in the fall at this time and less, there is a decision made as an institution that we would continue remote learning an limiting the number of individuals on campus for the fall. But if that were the case we would work with individual students on what that looks like. But our plan is to welcome students.
To their home at you, I asked in the fall.
I'm there is no price differentiation for the living learning communities, so that's just a part of the 1st and 2nd year experience on campus. So we we value enough, we want to make sure that all of those options are not compelled by the additional costs, so we do not have additional costs here. US for those.

06:31:42 PM
Are there waivers for the deposits?
Valeria V.
06:32:05 PM
How exactly do you apply to be in the pre-nursing pathway program?
Um would be allowed for international students at this time. You know at this time we are still accepting international students. I think again, as cover 19 evolves. We hope to welcome everyone to their home at uas in the fall, but I think that's that's a piece and we will always take applications. One piece that we have talked about and I will cover here is should a decision be made where we will continue remote learning for the fall and limit the number of individuals who can be on campus because of social distancing and.
Most practices we will roll over anyone's application for housing in anyone's application. Contract fees for the spring semester or such a time that they can return to campus. So that is something we will work with each student on. Again, we hope that that's not the case, and we hope that our goal is to welcome everyone here at Uas. However, if a decision was made at an institutional level for us to continue, remote world learning from one more semester and limit the number of individuals on campus, we would work with individuals to roll that application.
A fee and most fees over to the spring semester.

06:32:55 PM
Are there medical jobs on campus? Like EMS?
Citlaly V.
06:33:03 PM
Will there be a refund for charges at the room and board fees if the e-learning goes into effect?
Do you still have orientation? Yes, there will be a Kickstarter launch. We can now be pieces of that will be taking taking care of remotely and still be getting more information from our office. A new student programs in parent relations on that. But there will be orientation programs 'cause that's a huge component to joining the uas community in understanding what it means to be a student. Uas visitor rules for freshman. We are visitor rules are the same for everyone. If a visitors coming in who does not live in a residence Hall, they do have to be checked in by the individual who lives there. So let's say.
You were assigned to live in Lincoln residence Hall and you want to have a guest over. You would have to check them in at the front desk as we do have front desk operations and that would be part of the process for you being for you. Having a guess, but it's the same for first year, second year.
Connor H.
06:33:41 PM
Are there various meal plan options?
Michael S.
06:33:47 PM
If you're in CAP would you be able to apply for other communities such as the nursing program?
Yes, uh students, living residence halls and homes and apartments. Of course, those are individual spaces with front doors to go out into the community, and so individuals can have. Yes, of course our overall guest policiais. We ask for individuals not to say longer than 72 hours and that roommates should have conversations before having guests over. And so as long as your roommate and you all have agreed on having guests, and that's OK at that time to have a guest over, then as long as you're guiding them through the community, and as long as you've checked them in.
Orientations be dates be pushed because it COVID-19 just to kind of lap back around with Kickstart will be more information coming out about that, but there will be a lot of remote pieces and then we'll do some more pieces when we're able in the fall to bring people to campus.
What are allowed to have in the dorms? Are there certain things we can bring and do? Yeah, there's actually on our website as well. We have what we call the residence life guidebook. It's on the side tab and there's a lot of information about what you can and can't bring and will also send out a lot more information as we get closer to move in, so will do those assignment emails.
For anyone who plays by June 15th, Well, you'll get assignments by June 10th or July 10th.
And then we will also include a large portion of what it what it means to move into campus, and that talks about what you can bring. Will you can't bring how to move in timing of move in. And there's a lot of information, so I would get into more specifics there, but there's a lot of policies we have around that, so I would just share that if you go to youis.edu backslash residence life on the bottom left column, there is a place where the residence life guidebook is and you can find all that information there.
Trevon E.
06:35:30 PM
I noticed that the $200 dollars is refundable but the $50 is nun refundable. Will there be full refunds if Covid-19 stay at home order extends
Since social distances are in practice, So what about in classes that that is something we're working through for planning for the fall. There's a large committee on campus, actually two that are working on navigating how we would manage that. We do believe that a lot of it will come down to the basics of what we've learned so far is again the social distancing, so we may have larger rooms with smaller class sizes in them, as well as the basis of washing your hands, disinfecting, wearing the face masks, even if you're not displaying symptoms.
Um, and so we'll have a lot more of that information panned out throughout the summer. Our goal is to have everything figured out here in the next month or so. We can start implementing those practices and moving things around before students come back in the fall.
And all we Mail it to us, everything will come through IS email account from residence life. So it's important that you think about all those pieces. We do have some paper Mail that we will send out about moving but it will also come through your email account. So watchable through S email account and your permanent home address of what you registered with Uas.
And if you did something or deposit while ago please, please reach out to us via res life at usc.edu. You know with the transition of remote learning, there may have been a few pieces or things that I've kind of slowed in that process and I want to make sure you're getting getting your application confirmation soon.
Zamya W.
06:36:54 PM
Did we receive a UIS email account?
The last day you can apply for housing. Actually we hope that everyone who has decided to come to eat too, I guess applies by June 15th. That's kind of our.
Preferred deadline, but we do accept housing applications all the way through the day of moving.
Um, can I go back home on the weekends or do I stay have to stay on campus still break? Nope, you can come and go as you would like. Obviously that all depends on your travel ability. You know, if you have your own vehicle. If you're using public transportation or the Amtrak system, which is very conveniently comes right through Springfield.
Ailyn A.
06:37:55 PM
does the school make an email account for us?
You know, I think it's really. We hope this students choose to say I'm campus most weekends to build up those relationships and build community. But you are free to go home as needed, both on the weekends and during breaks. But another pieces for especially for international students in other students. We do allow individuals to stay on campus through break periods. There's a registration process, but that is something that's provided as part of your housing contract is you can stay on campus if you need to. So some people have student employment or employment off campus.
Citlaly V.
06:38:10 PM
If I have scholarships and loans to cover my entire tuition, do I still need to pay for the down payment and fees?
Who need to stay over the winter break or spring breaks? That is something we allow you to do at our campus without any additional charge fees.
Adnan K.
06:38:12 PM
Alright sir , so hope that by upcoming summer it will be normal and that scenario will be perfect .so you are great sir.its a pleasure to be here with you have a very nice day , and be safe and live long amin.
Uh, when do you find out who your roommates will be? And to contact them again that will come in your assignment and remain information. Email will be sent out and again that send out before July 10th every year or if you apply after June 15th, would be 30 days before before move in.
How many laugh kids are there? There are typically a few 100 loft kits. We've not at this point ever run out of love kids. For those who want them, but it is something we asked students to request as they move into the building, 'cause not every student wants lofted. We've never run out aloft kids at this point.
And then I I I'm. I'm sure that Catherine will be able to see that information of you providing in this in the.
Can we work off campus? Yes, uh, you can work off campus. Obviously. You know we want to make sure that you're able to manage all of your studies and being successful student, but we do have a number of students who work within the Springfield community, and there are great opportunities depending on majors for getting jobs that are specific to your major and those pieces, or the kind of work you've done. Maybe before we came to us as well.
Nyah B.
06:39:37 PM
Will these slides be shared with us or can we find this information on the website?
Erol I.
06:39:38 PM
Do students in the Capital Scholars Honors Program have to live in the Lincoln Residence Hall for the first two years?
Do you keep your Dharma or college clear? Do we get reassigned every year? We do have a reassignment process every year, so kind of how I talked about. We have first year students, typically in Lincoln, residence Hall, second year student stick, typically in founders residence Hall and then our upper division. Students in the townhomes and apartments every year in February and March we have a re application process for current students and So what you can actually do then is as you get to meet people on campus and create those relationships you can actually.
Zamya W.
06:40:14 PM
Is there a lot of crime?
Select rooms or apartments so either suites or apartments with your friends during that process. It's a lottery process, but all of our returning students for next year that we're here this year have already gone through that, and they're actually can pick your exact spot where you'd like to live. Based off of your class standing.
How is the security on campus? You know, I've worked at a number of college campuses at this point in my career and I would say they were one of the safest campuses that I've worked on. We do have a full fledged Police Department on campus and so they are able to be anywhere on campus within two to three minutes anytime. So I think that's really important. We also again have security in our residence halls and apartments in residence halls. We have three points of security before an individual would ever get to a student's room.
We have our front doors are all of our entrance doors are locked in card swipe only from midnight to 8:00 AM Seven days a week.
Trevon E.
06:41:22 PM
Are there waivers for the deposits?
And then we have a front desk from 8:00 AM to midnight Seven days a week where you have to swipe in as you come in and out of the building. Even residents have to swipe in and out, so that's the first point down all of our stairwell, doors and elevators, we have another swipe and only people who live in those communities can swipe into those elevators and stairwell doors. So that's that second level. And then once you get to the room, there are doors there, locks on the bathroom doors, and all of the bedroom doors. So that's I have 3 levels of security for the residence halls and Parmesan homes. We have the front door that is locked that all four residents have access to in each bedroom door has a lock in each bathroom door.
As far as internships, do you have to apply as soon as you know you've been accepted? You know that's something that's pretty specific programs, but what I would say is a great place to go is our Career Center. They are very helpful when it comes to internship, student employment, ornament, graduate employment, and so I would say that I would refer you over to the Career Center as a great resource.
Brian, I can jump in for this one as well.
As far as internships, most programs wants you to have done at least 16 hours. Of course work in your major.
Before you apply for your internship, so it's typically something that you do your junior year or between your junior and senior year.
Our captains have to live in our age for first years. Actually, we have changed the cap student assignment so cap students will live in our reach their first year.
And then they could live in Ephrata their second year or the townhomes are sucking. It really depends on what the numbers look like. As far as how many first year students are coming in because our preferences that first year students live in RH and secondary students live in FRH. However, with our class sizes of incoming freshmen each year growing in number, we've navigated having some of our sophomore students be able to live in the townhomes as well. So it really depends on what the specifics are. Do that to being a calf student.
Erol I.
06:43:29 PM
What are the research opportunities?
Selena G.
06:43:47 PM
Do we get assigned counselors?
Well, what makes me based on how many credits we have? Typically yes, typically we assign first year students with first year students, sophomores, sophomores, and so on and so forth. We do have juniors and seniors live together as well as sometimes graduate students living with senior students, but we try to be very intentional about assigning those based off of, you know, just life experience. The amount of work in your academic caseload, and if you're doing internships or doing other work in efforts to graduate or to go on to Graduate School. So we try to be very intentional about that.
Jackson a few email, rez life at USD to you about that not receiving the email yet.
Uh, is there a specific day of the week? Do you go into the office to manage the housing applications we typically have been rotating right now just because we want to make sure that we don't have too many staff working in the same office space at the same time? And so for the last number weeks, we've kind of been doing different days. We are hopeful that will start to go in every Monday afternoon. Moving forward though, and hopefully as we get back to working on campus more and less remote work will be able to take those applications and getting that fee deposited quicker.
And I apologize for the delay on off that.
A man, then the service programs like stars nursing is such a live in the F Rachel. Actually most of our else will be living in al rates for their first year and then setting. Your students will be in FRH. That has been a change over the last couple of years. A typically it was cap students in our H and then other students in FRH but we now have all of our LLC students and 1st year students in our age and then we navigate. FRH is a second you're building but there are some first year students will be living in a far reach.
When is moving day right now, moving day is, uh, actually planned.
I can give you a specific on that. I apologize, let me just pull that up.
So current plan for moving day would be Wednesday August 19th as in current state again that could shift, so we do watch your email address. We will send out very specific information about moving.
Uh, so information do have their own restrooms? Yep, we're all suite style rooms, so there would be four people who share that one bathroom, and you'd be only living with one other person that sweet.
Uh, what if we do not move into the COVID-19 and a half to do E learning? We still have to pay for a room and board again. That's you know if there was a decision made for us to do remote learning and to limit the number of individuals on campus, we would just roll over your application, fee into the spring semester.
Except section is going to be virtually. Or is that not decided yet?
You know the kickstart sessions? Some stuff we done remotely as we're doing all of our other pieces. I think the other pieces there will be in person. Opportunities and experiences will happen when we have move in and that will be part of that kickstarted launch. We'd go hand in hand together as part of our student new student orientation program on campus, and so some of the things will be able to be done remotely, and some things you need to be in person, and so those things would be shifted towards the move in time period, so will be a little more things will be doing together to get to know one another and to understand what our expectations are as you as students.
Uh in August, and we've been in the fall.
I we do not have waivers for our housing application and deposit it this time.
How exactly do apply to be in the prenursing pathways program? So I'll be more information coming out about that information here. When you actually start going through the kickstart sessions, that's that's a piece of communication.
Will come out through through the admissions office. I believe Catherine could you add into that?
Um the prenursing pathway. So we will help identify you as a pre nursing pathway or a pre nursing student depending based on listing. Nursing is your major of choice and then you will have on your application status page a kind of a residence life questionnaire and it will allow you to say that you're interested in the pre nursing pathway and then the advisor will contact you.
To chat with you about the program and make sure that you want to be in that living learning community.
Again, are the waivers for the posits that there are not waivers for housing deposit and application fee at this time? Are the medical jobs on campus like EMS? There are a number of We do have a health services on campus. The do employees students. But we do have a number of students who actually work as EMS is in the city of Springfield.
And I think that information would be something that you can learn once you once you get to campus or if you want to start researching that for the Springfield area. There are a number of EMS services.
Will there be a refund for charges of the room and board fees if we're learning goes into effect? So something it's important to know about the.
Charges for remembered fees. Those actually we don't go out until the beginning of August and so by that time obviously we would have a plan and and if at that time we were going to be remote learning for this fall semester and limiting the number of students who can be on campus, those fees would be rolled over again to the spring semester.
Um, either various meal plan options there are for our residence Hall students. There are two primary meal plan options.
And then we do have a meal plan options. That's a little bit smaller for our apartment in town, home residence, Inn, computer resident or students. Excuse me.
And so that is in. For some information you can get on our food services website. All that's listed on there and the dollar amounts are on there as well.
If your cap, would you be able to apply for other nurse other communities such as a nursing program? Typically the Aussies you would join one else versus the other else, and that's a conversation you could have with the LC partner, so we have full time staff who work with each of the living learning communities, and that's usually a conversation that you have both with the leader of cap and then the nursing program to make sure you're choosing the LLC the best needs your academic needs.
$600 is refundable, the 50 is non refundable. Whether we full refunds if COVID-19 stay at home or extends again for both of those fees we just roll those over to the spring 2021 semester for the those fees.
Did receive US email account. Yes, each student as you're admitted. I believe Catherine if you could jump in on this one.
Yeah, when you claim your um uas account, you would have gotten a activation token an enter your uin and they claiming site and you establish your password. When you do that. That actually claims your UI S email and you can access that by going to webmail.uis.edu and use those credentials to sign in.
Uh, Yep. So um, email account Catherine answered that question as well.
If you have scholarships and loans to cover my entire tuition, do I need to pay for the down payment of fees? Yes, I again there are some other places where we do waivers, but with housing because we're an auxiliary at this point, we don't have waivers, so the 250 feet does.
Have to be a paid for either via check or credit card or those pieces. If someone is really, really struggling with that, definitely reach out to us 'cause we are able to have some conversations with individuals. An individual basis too.
Uh, the sides and shared to us. Can we find this information on the website will do that will make sure that we get this email out to you after this.
In the in the next day or so.
To students in cap honors have to live in a large Arlington residence Hall for the first years. Not typically the caps scholar students are in our reach the first year and then either FRH or townhomes are secondary.
Is there a lot of crime? There's not a lot of crime intercampus obviously. You know we are. We are like a small city. We have a number of individuals around our campus every day, but as long as I think individual taking care of themselves and taking care of individuals in our community, we are relatively safe campus.
Research opportunities you know. That'll be really specific to your major in program, but there are a number of undergrad research opportunities in most of our colleges on campus.
Adnan K.
06:52:42 PM
What about scholarships please? and admission fee,and than the rest of expenditure it will be tough I think? As whole our country even don't have foreign currency then candidate like me from where do I get it.I am afraid.Anyway I want to join the new stream and to get connect with the new world and make new friends I have the abilities .
Do we get assigned counselor? So there are individuals who.
Are assigned based off of your academic programs. For academic counseling. We also do have obviously been working with admissions counselors and then we have our constant center, where then, that is another service we provide on campus. I I'm kind of covering all the counselors we have on campus in that question, but I think it's important you know that based off the academic program, there's academic advisors or academic counselors who help you navigate registering for classes and choosing courses and helping you navigate your degree again, your admissions counselors are here to help you all the way up.
Uh, through getting through orientation and getting to campus, and then we do have a counseling center to help all of our students with any needs that they could provide that through our Health Center.
So that for scholarships and fees or sorry scholarships and grants and loans. That is all managed through our financial assistance office and all of that information should be sent you once you're admitted. I believe Catherine. Is that correct?
We have some merit programs that are awarded through admissions and that will be in your admission letter for undergraduate students. If you're going to be graduate student, we do have some graduate assistantship, an graduate public service intern, programs that do help to offset the cost of your education and so that is a separate application for those programs.
But all others are through the office of financial assistance.
Zamya W.
06:54:30 PM
Will there be another webinar soon?
I'm looking now at the pre sent questions from registration.
It looks like I've answered.
Actually, all of our residents, all rooms have windows. That was a question that came in, but all of our we actually have large windows in all of our residence Hall spaces as well as each bedroom in the apartments. And townhomes has its own window in their large windows in the living rooms as well.
Valeria V.
06:55:21 PM
Does every dorm have AC?
Kathryn Kleeman
06:55:31 PM
@Zamya, we do not have one scheduled for Residence Life at this time. But we do have other topic specific webinars. You can find them listed at https://www.uis.edu/admissions/visit/.
What do you have to do to become an Aria so we get our resident assistant position on campus? Is a student position and we have both undergrad and graduate students who apply for that role. That is a role that you have to at least Bennett uas for a year, or have at least 32 credits at uas and so that process actually gets launched in December of every year. And we do interviews.
Kathryn Kleeman
06:55:44 PM
We do add new ones every couple weeks.
In late January and hiring in February, so typically arres are hired for the following academic year before spring break, and they've accepted the positions before spring break, so that's something that we would would highly encourage you all to think about because it's a great leadership role and as a great resume builder.
Zamya W.
06:56:07 PM
Okay, thank you Kathryn
How far is the housing from from classes? You can be pretty much anywhere on campus in a 10 minute walk. Our residence halls are a little bit closer to some of the academic buildings, but really it's only like 1 block closer than the townhomes or apartments. Typically we are very walkable campus for individuals and you can be again anywhere on campus in 10 minute walking time.
Kathryn Kleeman
06:56:33 PM
@Valeria, yes, all dorms, apartments, and townhomes have AC.
Usually it's 5 minutes, but I would just you know if you're walking from one campus together, it could be 10 minutes.
Again, there was a question about Mary or family housing. Are married housing and so if you are married or have a domestic partner or children, you can apply to live in family housing and get those assigned.
Valeria V.
06:56:55 PM
