Continuing our online programs have also gotten some recognition. ICU, New York and this is very key to who we are about a third of our students are online students and so this is not something that Springfield is new to. This is something that Springfield has been true to for a very long time. We have about 52.
An our online programs consist of the same faculty and the same curriculum as our on campus.
Programs, so there's no difference in quality that you're getting as an online student. I want to draw your attention to something unique on the slides, and that is this idea of the online program coordinator.
The online program coordinator is something unique to Springfield, and it's a person that's really going to walk with you step by step.
As part of your online program, so it's a coach, it's a mentor. It's an adviser. It is someone who is helping you navigate from the admissions process all the way through your program, and we are really excited about the reach that we have, and so our online students represent countries around the world. Nearly all of our States and nearly all of the state of Illinois.
I want to point out to you a couple of other locations where you can find a Springfield presence. One is in Peoria and I don't know how many of you know that we've been in Peoria since 1975.
This gives us an opportunity on the campus of Illinois Central College or ICC to provide learning opportunities for students in the Peoria Metropolitan area, especially if they'd like to stay in the area.
Another place where you'll find us is on, well, I suppose neighboring the campus of College of Lake County. This is on the University center of Lake County and this is a place that helps us sort of stay committed to our adult education roots. And this is a place where online learners can get resources. This is a place where.
Admissions events are held, and so we're trying to reach as much of the state as possible. The last location I want to point out to you is actually here in downtown Springfield and it's innovate Springfield. I don't know how many of you know that innovate Springfield is a University LED business incubator and at University.
Is US UIS leads this business incubation and social innovation initiative?
And so this is a place for entrepreneurs and a place for social change makers and our students have an opportunity to be involved as well.
Getting back to those rankings, I want to talk a little bit now about our graduate programs, and as you heard me say a couple of Times Now.
Springfield started out 50 years ago, very much committed to adults, being an upper division school, and that that remains.
And we have long sets honored the leadership roles at work and at home that adult students have.
Because of the leadership lived at home and at work, 64% of our Masters programs don't require any standardized admission test. So no gmat, no jirari
Your lived experience. Your prior learning is important, and that's enough at Springfield for you to get started in terms of advancing your career, changing your careeer, picking up a certificate or licensure, whatever you're planning. Or, you know, ruminating about in your head right now.
So typically what we are looking for at Springfield is around a 3.0 GPA. You can see that I've listed the range there for you 2.75, two, 3.45.
Additionally, I noted some financial aid options for graduate students. I know that it can be difficult to put together a financial aid package. You're an adult. There's not necessarily as much merit or or need based financial aid, but at Springfield we've got some options for you, namely our graduate public service internship program and graduate assistantships.
An in these come with a variety of benefits, whether it's a tuition waiver, stipend and some of them, like the public service internship and the Illinois legislative staff intern program give you much needed experience and connects you to agencies here in our capital city. Like the Environmental Protection Agency and many others.
And so the other thing that I want to remind graduate students that might be on the line is that there are a lot of outside scholarships to look for, as well as some of our own foundation scholarships. And I'll talk a little bit more about that later.
International admission it has been a complicated couple of years for international admission an what we want our perspective international students to know is that we are here for you. Many of you have probably already been in touch with our international counselor, Anna Bradford. Anna is always available to you. She gets up.
Leave here in the heartland of farmland and gives webinars at 6:00 AM to try and be present for our perspective students all over the world. What you see here is that we're trying to prep international students for basically predictable delays, and so if you are an international student, then you're interested in applying.
Please do so as absolutely soon as possible. You'll also see that there is an English language proficiency requirement, and I've listed the scores for three of those tests. Although we are looking into accepting more options, especially given the public health issues that the world is facing right now. But here you see the test of English as Foreign Language, the international exam of language testing skills.
And the piercing tap peer son. I'm sorry. Test of English.
Transfer students so transfer students are typically our largest population at Springfield, and again, what we're looking for is a minimum of a 2.0 GPA and about 30 or more college level credit hours.
For you to be admitted to.
The University of Illinois, Springfield. In addition, we've got some scholarships that are available. We do merit scholarships. There is a City College of Chicago scholarship, and there's some scholarships. For those of you who are high achievers as transfer students. In terms of Phi Theta Kappa, I've listed some resources down there at the bottom of the screen to help you get a head start on understanding what's going to transfer and what isn't in terms of the credits.
That you are amassing or have already amassed.
And now let's talk a little bit about our first year or freshman students. So what we're going to be looking for are students who have at least an unweighted GPA of 3.0.
For those of you who again are high achieving seeking challenge first year students, we really want you to consider the capital scholars honors program. Very unique program for a select few students. An first you are of course admitted to the University and then we invite you to apply to the honors program by asking you for a writing sample.
The other thing that we're really excited about, and we announced this in July, is that for.
Again, the most competitive first year students who are seeking to be nurses. There is now a guaranteed professional program admissions.
Agreement between the University of Illinois, Chicago, our sister campus in Chicago and us, and So what that means is that as a freshman, as a first year student, you would be admitted all the way through.
To the University of Illinois, Chicago College of Nursing.
And so that is a very um.
Highly beneficial aspect to getting your BS in you do not have to worry about what happens next. It is a decided an sure pathway so we encourage you to to look into that. The last note here concerns the priority due date for fall 2021.
And this is really centered around our first year students, and so I don't want everyone else to to sort of freak out. But next month we have a priority due date. For those of you who are.
Currently High School Seniors.
So again, I think I've I've mentioned the public health situation that we are all in, and because this is important, I want to actually read this to you so.
Uh or any of you high school seniors who are freaking out about the AC T and the S80. If I could see you say something in the chat, yes no, that would be very helpful for me.
Shaun Francis
01:19:37 PM
no
Um, this is Oh God, no awesome so this will help. And So what that what we're saying here is that test scores are optional completely.
Sumit Kumar
01:20:10 PM
Is it for international students too
You will not have to tell us why you haven't submitted a test score. You will not be disadvantage in the review process if you don't submit a test score and this is important. We don't want you to jeopardize your health or that of your family and loved ones to take the exams.
Shaun Francis
01:20:14 PM
I meant no - I am not a HS Senior, I am a graduate student.
Take care, stay safe. Be well, Ann and we got you.
Little bit about financial aid. As of October 1. So for a grand total of 11 days now the Fasa has been open. The Fasa is a free application for federal student aid.
What I've listed in the second bullet here is to give you some idea about the merit scholarships that we're offering.
So for first year students you'll see we're awarding up to $8000 transfer students. I mentioned the Phi Theta Kappa, but those merit scholarships also go up to 3000 international up to 4000 an for those of you who are not residing in Illinois and are seeking.
Bachelors degree from us. What we try to do is to give basically instate tuition reciprocity through what we call an out of state grant, and this grant is about a little under $10,000 and it represents the difference between in state and out of state tuition. It is available for students who show us.
My minimum unweighted GPA of 3.25.
Anna Bradford
01:21:52 PM
Sumit, the ACT/SAT is for undergraduate students and this does apply for international applicants as well.
And I did mention when I was talking about graduate programs about foundation scholarships, we have one.
Application that is your access to scholarships based on academics, interest, demographics etc. And that application is due mid February. So after you complete your fasa I want you to come on over to our website and complete that institutional scholarships application.
Wanna talk a little bit about Springfield as a whole?
We are what we like to say Rightsized and so that means that we are big enough.
Set of resources influence connections that you can leverage for your benefit.
Maximize that leverage by working side by side with you get to know your professors work side by side as an undergraduate doing research. Get internships that are tide to your interest. That's what we said. That's what we mean when we say right sized.
This is also a place that.
Is of course committed to scholarships. And here you see our research centers. An one thing I'd like to point out.
Is the Illinois Innocence Project an an for those of you who like murder mysteries or or things like that, you know that justice isn't as easy as.
It can be, and this organization, like many around the country, really helps to exonerate the truly innocent. And it's a very unique opportunity to be able to be involved with that work. As a student. The other thing that I want to point out here is that Center for online learning, research and service.
Sumit Kumar
01:24:21 PM
Mam. I want to get admission there. I will be very much blessed.
What we do at Springfield is we educate teachers from all over about how to teach online.
And that is really key when you're deciding who I'm going.
Going to invest in for my online or distance or hybrid learning.
Sumit Kumar
01:24:58 PM
But there are some problems with me. And only you people can help...!
Lots of options we have got you covered, so there are campus only programs, campus and online programs for you to choose from, and so we can absolutely meet you where you are. There are a variety of minors and there's even five joint program, so we have one joint bachelors and Masters program and four joint Masters programs here at Springfield.
Anna Bradford
01:25:35 PM
Sumit, I'm happy to help. If you want to talk feel free to call me on WhatsApp or schedule an appointment: https://apply.uis.edu/portal/virtual-appointment-anna
For those of you who are athletes, I tend not to run unless someone is chasing me. We have about 15 sports teams here and there are partial athletic scholarships available. We are Division Two and in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
This is just a shot of the recreation, an athletic center or track, just to give you some idea of some on campus resources.
Wanna talk to you a little bit about the arts, art, music and theater is.
An important major here for those of you that have particular talents that you'd like to develop or continue the big news here on this slide is that comma rada $10,000 Renewable Scholarship, and so for those of you who are interested, please learn more online or ask us and we'd be happy to share that information.
Additionally, while we're sort of in between on campus and off, I just want it to list some of the unique facilities that we have on campus one all the way at the bottom is the children center, and this is a place where students, staff faculty, and community members can get childcare while they're working while they're learning, and so we're very proud of that.
Oppurtunity we're the hub for National Public Radio and have some really distinct programs. Whether or not it's child advocacy or cyber terrorism or, you know, a relatively new nursing simulation lab.
Some quick facts about us. I think we are very proud to be who we are and where we are and be able to tout the diversity that we have on campus. We can also talent that closeness in terms of student faculty ratio an we can tout high caliber teacher scholars who will be your professors not teaching assistance.
Residence life we offer a variety of options for students and you can see that listed all here.
Unique thing that we offer our living, learning communities and this is an opportunity to as a cohort.
Um, live together and learn and play an engage together.
Equity and inclusion. Social justice is on many people's tongues right now, and Springfield is a place that is included in that we have in equity over injustice. Sort of tagline that we're working on right now. And so no matter who you are, you can come and be your authentic whole self here at Springfield.
Student resources that you might imagine. I just want to point out to you there is a pre Law Center Greek lie and veteran affairs office for our returning heroes. She Roseanne military connected families.
Our student Union is relatively new and a recipient of an architectural award, and it offers all of what you you see here, and it's it's similar to what you might imagine, but it is incredibly comprehensive.
Sumit Kumar
01:29:27 PM
You are very kind mam thanks @Anna Bradford
Student services we want to get you 2 and through College.
And so anything that you need, we've got.
People offices facilities here for you. One thing that I want to point out is the fact that 95% of both are undergraduates and graduates.
Are employed, continuing their Ed or performing service in the military within six months of graduation, so our outcomes are good an I hope that any parents on the line can concur with that given those outcomes. We offer an affordable investment and very high return on that investment. So if you think about the fall 2019 numbers, full-time undergraduates 28%.
Full-time residence undergraduates 30% paid nothing and then you see it go up in increments one to under $3000, three, $1000 to full and then full tuition and fees only 23 or 21% of the population are paying full tuition and fees.
Visit us on campus. We are back. So through December 16 you can join us on campus for a small group tour.
Visit us on line. As I said, I gave Miss Bradford a shout out, but she is online very, very early in the morning and the rest of us are online at a reasonable time and in the evening. So just check us out on visits and events on our website and find something that works well for you. But the point is that you visit, visit, visit, visit.
The other thing that we can offer you is personalized admissions counseling so you can meet one on one with us online or as a student. Sit with your family and an admissions counselor online and we've got some evening hours.
Anna Bradford
01:31:55 PM
