Alright, well thank you everyone for joining me again. My name is Anna Bradford. I'm the international admissions counselor for the University of Illinois, Springfield. For this webinar I just want to start with a few moment Lee. Different points of housekeeping. I'm the only one on this web and are so I will not be able to monitor the chat bar while I'm presenting. And any questions that you submitted when you registered for this presentation, I will be able to address.
At the end of presentation. So while you're free to add questions in the chat bar during the presentation as they come to your mind so you don't forget them and please, just keep in mind that I'm not going to be monitoring the chat bar outside of that one question asked if you could hear me until the end of the presentation. Towards the end, if you have additional questions.

Hello Anna.
But I do wanna let you know just at the very top of this presentation that uas is monitoring the situation's globally or aware of the difficulties that you're facing. And we are working with you as we can. So we are still issuing emissions decisions and Whilst after working remotely we are still able to be contacted throughout this presentation to find a few different ways to contact us. And that's just just the top of.
Mine things that I wanted to communicate with you. So without further ado we are going to be starting this presentation.

Hello
So this video that you just saw is just a brief visual of what our campus looks like, especially during the term. Whenever you hear throughout this presentation, I'll just be introducing a little bit more better institution.
I also want to let you know that through all of the slides that I show you, I'm not going to be reading all the kinds of the slides, but I am going to just be elaborating on what you see.
UIS is a liberal arts institution and I want to start by saying that liberal arts isn't a political aligning. The use of this term actually dates back to Ancient Greece. While education has changed a great deal since then, the modern goal of liberal arts degree is the same to enable individuals to be well rounded by helping them to obtain general knowledge, it a wide range of subjects and this will ensure that students obtain a mastery of transferable skills. So our goal is that students become.
Global citizens with the capacity to pursue life long learning to be adaptable an more than ever. The ability to have transferable skills and to be adaptable is very vital for continued health in your career, so especially, especially in this world of rapid change that we find ourselves in right now, you're not going to be finding yourself occupationally obsolete.
So for example, if you're looking for a certain type of job, let's say you're looking for accounting liberal arts degree. Sure that you will have great communication skills that you'll be able to also look at the world in many different ways, not only to communicate with the customers that you'll be reaching out to, but to change as your position develops. Maybe you'll move on to be a manager or something along those lines, so that's the goal of the liberal arts degree.
So here's some information about uas just looking at the numbers right here. You can see a map of the state of Illinois if you might not have heard of the state of Illinois, but we are in the Midwest of the United States. So if you're looking at a map of the continental United States, we are smack in the middle right next to the Mississippi River city of Chicago is in the top would be, I guess the right of your map. That would be near Lake MI. So we're right in the middle of the state.
We are in the state capital of a few things that I want to highlight about our University is we are accredited by the higher learning Commission. That would be the regional accreditation body for our region of the United States. So in the US we institutions don't get accredited by the Department of Education. the United States outsources that to nonprofits and we are fully accredited. Both work on campus programs in on line UPS is actually within the top 10% of the nation for online programs. So that's.
Also, something that we've been able to be flexible within this season of uncertainty and change. We've already been doing on line for quite a while. Other things that I want to highlight on this side is that we are part of the UI system, so which would be the flagship system? So public institution in the state of Illinois is in part funded by taxpayer dollars, and they have flagship systems where they pour a lot of their resources initially as part of that system. We do have $7,000,000 in research funding.
For being a liberal arts institution, that's really great. That means it funds things like our Center for legislative and legal studies are serving research office, and it provides money for students that are undergraduates that are looking to maybe partner with their professors to be able to pursue research projects, which typically would only be at larger research institutions. Those opportunities would quickly only be available for Masters or PhD students. So if you are a freshman looking to come to USA on this web and R.
I'm just know that there are a lot of opportunities not only like we have opportunities for grad students, but there are also opportunities at the aggregate level to be research to do, conduct research with professors.
Next slide is talking about more data but really looking at the student level and so our current student population is about 4600 and looking at the demographics about of course, since we're a state institution, about 77% of the students on our campus are from within the state of Illinois. Honestly, a lot of them are coming from Chicago to Springfield, but we do have a lot of students from around here and then. We have about 9% international students, so.
Collins Agu
06:09:24 AM
Please when do we expect response from the GA/GT
Currently you're looking at about maybe 38 ish students for an F1 visas, but if you're looking about 4045 different nations, sorry, not 38 students, 38 nations. When you're looking at people who are in F1 visas but somewhere in like 4040 two different nations when you're looking at the larger picture, so maybe more different types as well. So 9% international reference, many different nations on this campus also. For more information, looking at student life, we definitely recommend that you look at our social media accounts.
There's a YouTube for phase YouTube for uas Facebook Instagram. It's great because legends will tag themselves so you really get an image of what life looks like while you're here, specially if you're going to be moving all the way. Kind of want to know what you're getting into, and that's a great resource to be able to figure that out.
Other high points for uas. As we do have 13 different bachelors degrees, 20 Masters degrees in one doctoral degree. So we have a lot of different options. Being liberal arts, we have four different colleges. The four different colleges on our campus would be the College of business and communication. The College of Education, the College of political science and then the Liberal Arts College. These different subsets within the larger University offer the different programs that we have on our campus and.
On the campus we do have about 60% of applicants are either online, 660% or on campus, 30% online and for the students that are on campus, about 63% or under graduate. So it is a very diverse population of students. You're going to be looking at traditional incoming Bachelor students who are also going after needs. There's a great community and students.
Over by and large really enjoy being here on our campus. I'm you'll see some really great stories of leadership live. There's a link down here in the bottom of the slide following the end of this presentation. You will be getting a copy or recording of this presentation. In addition to this PDF, so you'll be able to follow that link, and it has about 170 different stories of students what their life has been like it here at uas, both undergraduate grab it, and that's a really great also resource to be able to hear testimonies of the students.
So why you ask were part of the universe, the world class University of Illinois system? You will be getting a degree that will open doors. You'll be able to utilize that education an you'll definitely see return on investment. Our goal for this education is to be able to help get you employed. It help you be addition to the workforce. So if IUIS being located in the state capital we were created with the purpose.
You know public service. So even if you're not necessarily going into a major that's involved in the government were looking at how we can better society, how we can contribute to not only your nation, our nation, wherever you are in your respective communities, but to each other's personal lives. So that's part of what is it? Better education? In addition, you're looking at a teaching focus institution. We do have TAS on campus, but they are just assisting the teachers. They're not actually teaching, so they'll be helping. Maybe run things in the back ends or.
Some of the logistics or doing this little tutoring sessions on the side, but they won't actually be teaching your horse is we have an abundance of opportunities to be able to collaborate different one moment. Sorry, different initiatives that are downtown. We have the discovery discovery partners incubator at the incubators initiatives that are funded by the state to be able to expand your career horizons. But then there's different oppurtunity's like the Illinois Innocence Project. If you're looking at law at all, you can.
Work with cases to maybe see concept free so there's a lot of different opportunities, right sized, because that's a really tight knit community to be able to take advantage of all of those different opportunities. So there's a lot available for you to take advantage of, and we love to pull people into our fold.
As part of that, there are a number of campus resources so listed. Here are some of the standard things like the bookstore. We have a really great library. We have access to the full you buy system library. It's very good research library. One thing on here. I always love to highlight is the crew Development Center. They help you with developing resume. They help you do mock interviews especially. I'm right as you're about to graduate. We have career fairs that happen twice a semester. So they invite employers around 200 two, 50 employers to campus.
As well as continuously posting different positions and internships on our website on their website so you'll be able to really hone your skills to be able to find Akarere once you graduate.
So that video was actually just recently films, so that was probably finished.
Earlier this year, actually probably around November, so this is an introduction to what housing and living on campus would be like. It is, as mentioned in the video, mandatory for students who are freshmen and sophomore, so that would freshman be your first year of your bachelors degree, sophomore being your second year of your bachelors degree for your second to your last two years of that degree, you are free to remain on campus or choose to pursue housing off-campus. Your graduate applicant, you.
Michael Adejuwon
06:17:15 AM
Good day every
Can choose to live on campus or choose to live off campus. Living on campus is very convenient. Honestly, walking from one end to campus to the other is about 10 minutes right here on this slide you can see the layout that is typical, so the residence Hall, founders and Lincoln mentioned in the video you're looking at the layout here, where it has the two bedrooms connected with the bathroom right across the Hall. So what it would be is 2 residents to one room and then two rooms to win the bathroom on the other side.
Each one of the apartments or townhouses as you saw in the video. There's a lot of different versions of this layout, but what they all have in common is that everyone living within the apartment or the townhouse would have their own bedroom and then each bedroom. 2 bedrooms, 21 bathroom, and all of them will share a living room and then a kitchen and the kitchen does have ample storage space to accommodate for all of the different cooking ingredients that would be heard by each respective roommate. That's what you can expect for housing used to live on campus.
So moving on, I do want to talk with you about the admissions requirements, the admission steps if you choose, you're interested in you. Ask me like to move forward for uas right now for fall 2020 for the actually the entire year of 2020, we had been waving application fees and we will continue to do so. So if you're applying for fall 2020, even I understand with everything that's happening right now, even if you can finish the application, you could refer to another term. But the application fees are being.
Waved and then we are our application requirements have not changed even with the current circumstances. So we understand that it's very difficult. Maybe not possible currently to be able to get ahold of different documentation and we understand that if you're looking at it for a full 2020, we are an institution with a rolling admissions deadline. That means that we will continue to issue admissions decisions, all complete applications, complete applications or applications that have not only been.
Michael Adejuwon
06:19:03 AM
What's the plan of UIS should incase the lockdown is extended beyond resumption date for fall 2020.
Filled out and submitted, but all of the documentation has been received, so once all the documentation that's relevant for making decisions received were able to issue missions decisions at the undergraduate level, admissions decisions usually take between two to three business weeks and at the graduate level, admissions decisions typically take between three to four business weeks. I'm at the undergraduate level documents that are required are your transcripts or official mark sheets and those transcripts.
Fishel mark sheets if they originate from outside of the United States, or if they originate from an institution that is not like if you go to an International School that works, American curriculum, AUS curriculum, you wouldn't need it if you happen to go to International School that works off of British curriculum, you would require it because we require these evaluations from British citizens. So Macy's evaluations. I will elaborate on this next slide. Other things to keep in mind is for freshman.
ECTSAT scores are required. That's because the admissions criteria needs to be the same as what we're requiring for domestic students and then for graduate applications. Please keep in mind that the Jirari Angie Matt is required for only three different programs, and each of these programs do have specific circumstances and which they can be waived. So, for example, if you're looking at the MBA so the Masters of Business Administration, there's about three or four different criteria for how they can be waived.
In your undergraduate degree, if you had over a 2.5 GPA, they will waive it for you. For the Masters of public health. If you had, this is your second Masters degree. They'll waive it for you. So, or if you have taken different medical exam, you can communicate with them. There are certain circumstances in which all these tests are waived for also elaborated on the English proficiency requirement. Two sides from now. Here, all of the.
Information on here can be again, I'm going to be sharing this slide when it's finished, and then if you have any additional questions I'm completely know for freshmen. One more thing to mention would be the personal statement is optional, but if you're looking to get involved and maybe our honors program, that would be something that request as well.
So for Macy's or the National Association of credential evaluation services, this group is not a company that does evaluation services, but rather they are a group that set standards for quality and assurance in any company credential evaluation company that is a member of any seas. We will accept an evaluation from right now, all of them, except for one that I'm aware of. ECE is open and functioning.
And so Wes is working remotely. There are other companies that their processes haven't changed, for example, IE international education evaluators. Their process hasn't changed their still receiving and processing documentation as abnormally. Just like uas, we're doing the same thing. They're working remotely, but they have staff that are alternating coming in, opening up Mail and digitising things. So before you choose a company, while we do recommend West, please reach out, talk to the different organizations and see which one will meet your specific needs.
To let you know the process, your transcripts which would originate from your issuing institution would go either to you in a sealed envelope unopened and on to the Macy's member. Depending on the member, some of them also want your transcripts to go directly from your institution to the Macy's member, not all of the Macy's members will require that they come in paper. If it happens to be the case that your institution and send them digitally, there are different Macy's members that would.
Except that so on the website I do have a PDF of exactly what you would need to order based off of the different Macy's member, but for the details of how to order them, who is more flexible on this or that you'll actually have to go to their website as I'm not an employee of the nice members and their information is changing rapidly. I don't keep track of all of that, but I do keep traffic of exactly what you would need to order. So if you have any questions or if you haven't been able to locate that on the website, just let me know.
Also, if you go to macys.org/members, you'll be able to see the full scope of the different members that are available. We do not need a separate transcript sent directly to uas. Uas will take your transcripts and your evaluation directly from the niecies member, so you do not need to send one copy of your transcripts to them and then one copy of your transcripts to Uas. Please just send your transcript USA. Please don't waste your extra copy of your transcripts by sending it to our institution.
Once we receive the copy of transcripts, we can't really sit back to you, so I would hate to see that happen for you. We will accept a digital copy of this transcripts from Meneses member. For example, if you choose West, West will evaluate your transcripts and then they will make that available to you as via an online portal. We will take those transcripts, the copy and the scan of the transcript digitally from you from West, and will use those for the admissions process so only one copy of the transcripts needs to be sent.
And it needs to be sent through the Macy's member. That Macy's member is going to assign a GPA on AUS 4.0 scale and there also for graduate students and transfer students. They're going to be benchmarking your credit like your courses, so upper division, lower division credit that will give each Rep. Programs are very clear picture of your educational history to make sure that we can waive all of the courses as possible and you won't have to pay extra money. A lot of money to be able to take something that you wouldn't need to.
Diganta Barman
06:24:59 AM
Hi Ma'am! I have started by WES evaluation but due to some document requirement from my university, its taking time or you can say it has been stalled by the present nation wide lockdown.
So here are the English requirements for uas. We do take these different exams, the Toefl, the LCP to Ian. The item. Currently all of them have been moved to online. Actually yesterday, the Ielts released the fact that they have created an on line take at home version of their exam. To my knowledge the first.
First of those exams is available on April 22nd, so if you want to find out more information about that, you can go to the each of their respective websites. It's a special at home addition for the Toefl. The attempt was one of the first exams to move on line and the PT has also created something similar. So if you go to each of their websites, these are the scores that will accept. If you've already taken the exam, but you need to have the scores sent to uas there any code for toefl, it's 1787.
Anna Bradford
06:25:55 AM
1787
It is on our website or you can email me. I can actually just put that in the chat while I'm saying it, that code will make that score available to us. All scores from Toefl actually come to you, as in a batch, so they always show up in our system on Thursday evenings. So if you order a score, you can always expect to see it. Maybe on Friday morning. This is of course US time US central Standard Time. If you don't need that first week, it'll probably be the next week for Ielts.
Receive those digitally online, so please contact your testing center testing like. I also still open were still receiving outscores so you'll have to be able to contact your testing center or the regional hub to be able to get that score communicated or shared with uas via the digital portal. You don't have to worry about it being physically mailed.
We don't receive any physically mailed digital, but other just test the PT in the itep have always sent their scores digitally to uas so it's possible to still have those sent to us. If you've already taken them and it's possible to take them now, there are different provisions for having your English waived. If you believe you meet a criteria that isn't necessarily listed here, you can go to this link again. These slides are going to be shared with you following the presentation and fill out the petition to try and see if you meet the requirements.
So funding your education for undergraduate students, those who are pursuing or looking for a bachelors degree for incoming freshman incoming freshmen would be assuming from the post secondary without any educational like post secondary education coming straight from work and education without any post secondary credit.
They would be eligible for scholarships that are based off of your GPA or your AC TSAT score. These are the same scholarships that we issued to our domestic students. We make those available to national students as well. So for freshman, the scholarships vary between $1500 a year up to what would be a full scholarship and full scholarships would include tuition, housing, academic fees and then there are few few fees that you have to pay because we're not able to waive those.
I'm just things like your health insurance or your housing deposit things along those lines, but the full scholarship would be renewable for up to four years as long as you maintain your GPA for transfer students. We do have these merit scholarships as well. They range from $2000 a year to $4000 a year, again renewable if you maintain a good GPA and these scores are mean these different merit scholarships are not based off of Education there, based off of your initial admissions application and if you meet the criteria, you will be automatically.
Issued these scholarships. We do have institutional scholarships. They become available every year, December 1st and they closed February 15th. They are issued in April so within the next week or two people who had applied back earlier this year. If you have one, there will be notified an you'll be let know that you've gotten that an all of scholarships are stackable there. Other departments on campus that have scholarships like our music program, has a scholarship. It's called Camarada Fellowship.
And that is $10,000 a year and that is open to both. You know, people who play instruments, people sing, and that stackable with an academic scholarship renewable. So the different requirements, the different like. There's a debate scholarship. There's a few other scholarships that are specific. Typically those are tide to the institutional scholarship application. That's one application for all of the possible scholarships. So when that comes open every year there is emails that are triggering talking about that. Definitely encourage you to check that.
Also, at the bottom of the site is information about our tuition Calculator and I'll be talking a little bit more about tuition in about two sides.
So if your son on this web and R that is looking to come to uas for graduate education on the previous slide, the scholarships mentioned there for the merit scholarships are tide to her undergraduate programs. That is, in large part really supported by funding by the state and so for graduate students, the funding that we received, we've funneled into opportunities to not only provide financially for education, but the work experience and so these two programs on the graduate public service internship in the graduate assistantship.
Are your options for financially from Las specific to the graduate level? I'm in order to be eligible. You have to 1st be admitted to US for the graduate assistantship. The eligibility for whether you have a visa or not depends on the program. But for the graduate public service internship, you would actually have to be worded the visa prior to being able to be considered, and that is because the graduate public service internship provides we experiences from off campus. You're looking at internships at state agencies. We are in the state capital so.
Every state agency has a headquarters here. For example, the Department of Education, the Department, not Department of Education, Department, Department, local Department of Education, the Department of human resources, the Department of Natural Resources, the Department of child and Family Services, the Department of Public health so many. And then there's also not projects that you'd be able to get involved in. So if you happen to be an applicant who are looking at Human Services as a Masters program, or.
Clinical mental health counseling. As a program, there are opportunities to be able to work with some of the non profits within the cities as well. So these different agencies for their hiring practices do require to have in person interviews and that's why that visit elements required in it. There are three deadlines for that program. For international students, the deadline to be aware of is that one in August, so both of these programs the graduate assistantship and the garage public service internship, they have a stipend. So they pay you.
A monthly amount of money In addition to a tuition waiver. The tuition waiver goes up to nine credit hours and that would be for each semester that you are with in that position and the minimum amount of time you can hold one of these positions is for one academic year. So two semesters in a row. You would work 20 hours during the week and then during break for the GPS I internship you would work full time, so you're skyping with double, which is really great if you're here during the summer and you're working full time, you can save that money for when you go back to school.
And for the graduate assistantship you're working on campus three areas, teaching assistantships, research assistantships resistant like more administrative assistant ships within department's as well as other like side initiatives. We do have that Center for legal legislative studies. That initiative would be graduate assistantship may be working with one of those research funded or grant funded positions, and those positions. The eligibility varies by program, and so, like for example, the College of business.
Does interview international students via Skype, so you wouldn't necessarily have to have a these yet in order to be able to be considered other programs. It really depends on the stipulations for that program. For more information, you would have to go to our website and Contact the programs directly. I can help give you a little bit more 1000 foot view of those positions. They are still interviewing an it is September 3rd. Those three different deadlines for the graduate public service internship. The last one isn't like bottom quality.
Collins Agu
06:33:43 AM
I Got my admission letter few days back, would I still be considered for the Graduate Assistantship position? submitted my application in February
It's just the time of year when positions become available. For example, the government counter for funding like the fiscal calendar ends in July, so they're going to be opening a new position they've never had before. They will open it around August. Also, graduating seniors. People who just finished their graduate program that stay during the summer. The positions become available than two, so there's about 40% of the GPS I interns are international. You still have your options then, and they are still interviewing.
Something you can still be considered for for both of these positions if you apply just like any work position in the United States, they don't release when they've filled every position. There's not an email that goes out, and there's not some sort of posting that they make. They also don't tell you, hey, you're not considered, and that's because they keep your application open for the full year. Your applications are good for a full year. If something comes up and you need the criteria, they'll contact you.
So if you want to know if you've already applied and want to know what your statuses, you'll have to reach out to them directly, please don't expect an email to be sent to you. You have to be proactive in your communication with them.
Some more information on pricing your education as a public institution funded by the state. We only look at people as Illinois taxpayers or not Illinois taxpayers. So we have an in state tuition rate in and out of state tuition rate. So you pay the same amount of money if you're from New York, or if you're from Tokyo. So looking at that amount of money in order to be eligible for in state tuition, you must have lived in Illinois for one full calendar year prior to start to turn as it's about 6:35 AM right now, I'm assuming that there's not an Illinois resident on this call with me.
But if you are there or any of you were on like maybe an H1 or another type of visa, you would have to petition the eligible for in state tuition. I have the link here. If you have questions on it, feel free to reach out to me. All of our tuition is based on credit hours, so every course that you take it, uas is assigned a certain number of credit hours courses, traditionally humanities type courses or kind of three credit hours other.
Tuition, like if you're looking at maybe a science or a lab intensive program, you're looking at me for quiet hours and that how you can benchmark how much you would pay the tuition Calculator on our website can give you an image of what you can expect to pay. There is a initiative in Illinois. Illinois is the only state that has this. For public institutions, it's called the truth Intuition Act, which means that when you start at you like at an Illinois public institution, your tuition at the beginning of your program up to at least four years.
Is fixed, we do not change your tuition. It is frozen for that period of time so you can know what to expect. The only thing that would very is the amount pick on your credit hours. So maybe 1 semester you take nine credit hours and one semester you take 12 because for one semester three classes equals 9 and then second semester through classes equals 12. That would be the only thing that was easy of flux in your Twitter, right? So I'm going to keep in mind is that at uas two Euro 20 amount.
Is $35,000 that is not what you can expect to pay for your tuition. That's the amount for tuition, housing costs, extra amount of money that I just demonstrates too. That's not money that you pay to uas. That's money. The amount that you demonstrate to the US government that you can afford to come to uas if you're looking to come to uas is an undergraduate applicant. You're looking at said about.
$23,000 for all of your tuition and fees for one full academic year that's 2 semesters if you're at a graduate level you're looking at about 20 and so that's you know students it would very program especially the graduate level some of your graduate level programs will be lower than that simile higher than that if you want to have a conversation about more specific amounts you can always reach out to me I mean you can email me I do have WhatsApp but you can also contacted me by.
That would be a better conversation for one on one.
So here is a slide of different outcomes for graduates at Uas is just very brief for the student. The top part of the corner, his name is it Saint Joseph. He was a student that graduated about about a year a year ago. Now he was a graduate public service intern at the Illinois Auditor General's office and once he graduated, they offered him a position and he was able to work there. He worked there for a little system here because after that he was actually offered a position down in Texas. So he moved and he's now working in Texas.
So there are applicants are able to find jobs not only through internships that they take by through different connections that they make. During that time. You IS not only equips people to be able to work with the government, but a wide variety of positions. I know a lot of applicants who, In addition to the positions listed here, I have gotten jobs with Google. I'm other firms an all around the nation, so it's definitely and a degree that prepares you to go places.
So your next steps I encourage you to apply right now for when you're looking at timelines. We typically would encourage international students to apply up to 12 months prior. That's in general, just good practice. We do have advisory deadlines, and typically that would be June 1st because you're looking at a visa right now, because embassies?
Internationally for the US are closed, the timeline for getting abuses honestly unknown. There's a lot of uncertainties right now and we're asked that you not only monitor your embassies, but definitely keep your ear out because things have changed very rapidly. And just for example, students who are currently here in the United States studying to be allowed to be doing online courses. But because of the realities of COVID-19 they're doing online courses, so the Department were being pretty flexible, so.
Things change really rapidly. Definitely keep your ear out for that, but we are issuing admissions decisions on a rotating basis, and so if you apply now, we are being flexible. We're going to be issuing image decisions for fall 2020 until August.
21st basically and then after August 21st, if you're still interested in coming to you IS you can defer their few different options. We can be flexible with you talking about those options, but in order to maintain the integrity and standards of our admissions process, those weren't built to be flexible. Those are built to be rigorous, so we need to maintain that in order to make sure that we're always delivering the same quality to literally everyone that comes to our institution. So is that we want to be flexible. We can, and.
Definitely maintain our standards where we can't, and then the other information for those requirements. I'm definitely for undergraduate students. That information is on the side for graduate students program. When you apply like you're admitted to uas, those admissions standards are specific to that program. Definitely go to this link here for admit requirements to be able to see how those very once you submit your application, there is an online portal and that portal will have formation about the application process. It's actually on my picture there in my.
Contact information so you can always reach out to me. I'm here to be able to help you so you'll be able to see my information more towards the end of this presentation and then I can drop in contact box as well.
So if you happen to be on this presentation, Ann, you're a student that is admitted to uas or your. I'm hopefully you're all looking to be admitted to, as this is what you can expect for your next steps, so you would have to accept your offer to uas. That is in the intent to enroll form that intent to enroll form. Not only is that acceptance offer, but it also has some paperwork assigned to that form that we would need to be able to activate your record. Without that, you're not going to be in our larger overall system, and you wouldn't be able to register so.
First would be paperwork to accept your offer. That acceptance is not binding, but it does enable you to go to be able to move forward. If you would like to, you can set up your uas accounts and after you.
Set up your US count like that email will come maybe in a day or two after your admission and then about.
Three to four days after admission, you'd be contacted by the person who would be your designated school official that designated school fishel is your contact here at uas. While you are student and they would help you in getting your eye 20, they would help you do not have to submit any financial documents to uas like hard copies. You don't have to give us the originals, but we would need scans and the system for them to be able to do that. It's in there. I start system to be able to get your F1 and on the website again you'll be able to follow this link when you get these.
Lily up these slides. You'll be able to see the steps to obtain your initial for my 20. They are delivering them and we are working with applicants on ways to get those.
In addition, you would need to obtain your immunization records. That would be your health records shot records. They are asking that they are on this yellow card from the World Health Organization. If you're not able to obtain them in your home nation, you are allowed to get them at uas on campus. Definitely be in contact with the Health Services Department. They will help you be able to locate this card. Figure out ways to obtain that. Definitely reach out to them before you do anything drastic like driving way too far to get it. They'll work with you.

I received my admission decision letter a few days back, will I still be considered for the Graduate Assistantship position? If I submit submit my application now.
Other things too that are mandatory is international student orientation, so you would have to be so while classes for fall 2020 start August 24th, you'll have to be at uas at the very latest by August 20th for the full day of orientation. That would be checking into for your visa. But then In addition to some programs, won't let you register until you show up then, or some programs and some things aren't available to you until after that.
And then other information on the slide. Definitely consider looking living on campus. It is. There's a lot of different possibilities there. You saw the video previously, so before I move into questions or look at the chat bar, I just want to share with you 1 final video.
Ahmed Al-Nusairi
06:46:59 AM
nice
One thing I love about this video that video I just showed is there a lot of faces professors on different people on campus. They are who you do not acting. The person who talk from the office of international student services that she's one of the dsos. So people who are listed.
Like for example, let me just go back to the slide that was Jolene Vollmer. She would be the person, the second from the bottom. She would be someone assisting you in helping with that visa process. So one reason why I just like to show that video for people. So looking here is the information for contacting not only the office of admissions but myself. That is my email and that phone call like that phone number. Even though I'm working from home that is my UA S cell phone. So if you wanted to call me or WhatsApp me I do.
Monitor that because I do that In addition to the other responsibilities I have throughout the day, I try to keep a very quick turn around, but I also asked a little bit of patients. You can always send me a message once and I will get back to you. Definitely here for you in this process. So at this time I'm going to start scrolling back up through the chat bar to make sure that I get all the questions that were at little bit earlier flight with floor for more questions.

Please, I don't have my certificate yet but immediately after the lockdown and strike, I will definitely get it. Please how do go about the registration without certificate
So Collins I do see your thing. Your question about the response from the GA and GPS I programs. When I was talking about that slide, I did mention that once you like, they'll once you submit your application they are going to keep your application on file for one year, and if you're being considered or your looked at for an interview, they will reach out to you and let you know and schedule a time with you. But because they keep your application on file for a year, they're not going to reach out to you and say, like, hey, you're not considered.
Ahmed Al-Nusairi
06:48:49 AM
Is getting accepted in a full funded scholarship strengthenning my chance of getting a USA visa?
Best of luck on something else, they just keep your application open so if you haven't heard from them and you would like to choose from them, feel free to reach out. But also if you have to look at your application right now to remember where it is, if you started application and you don't have an admissions decision yet, you're not eligible yet so they're not actively looking at your application, so they'll keep on Phil, but they're not going to be reviewing it. It's not until the system let's them know, like hey there admitted, and then later let's them know that. Especially for GPS, I let them know that.
Even a word in the visa. Then you move into the pole of active applicants. So that's something to keep in mind.
Find my *** shooting like encased locktown. I very much hope Michael that your question does not happen. I hope that when fall 2020 comes that we all see a lot more stability in the world, but if that were to happen, they are making a contingency plan. As I mentioned earlier, uas is 10% within that nation of on line programs, so a lot of our programs that we offer on our campus if they were easily or if they weren't necessarily tide to a physical location.
Sorry buddy for the pause. I just turned and looked at my window and it's snowing in Springfield, IL.
I welcome to spring anyway, it doesn't normally happen. I'm sorry. I just got very distracted anyway. For that program if it comes to fall 2020, then they are going to be shifting people online and that would be for everyone. We are deferring students so if you are looking to come purely on an F1 visa. Then you can choose to defer to spring 2021 or fall 2021. It is possible to start online and then switch.
To coming to on campus, if you want to make sure that you maintain your timeline for when you wanted to graduate, that's an option for you.
You know that it's not ideal for a lot of people, so that's not something that you have to do, but we are making contingency plans should the lockdowns continue. We are being flexible with that, so even if you're an applicant on this web and R and you have different application before, we typically only allow one deferral. But this year we're letting you differ again. So just reach out to me, you submit the deferral form and it let's you know, OK, you've done this before. We can override that and help you with it. There are a few different options in that way, so.
But the main two would be you could start online, then switched on campus. If you are looking to take advantage of Opete optical optical optional practical training after you graduate, you have to at least have been on campus for two consecutive terms. So for some programs there's a built-in flexibility where you can start on campus for one term and then move, or you can just overall defer and then at Uas we only host F1 visas for the spring term, which would begin in January.
Or the fall term, which would begin in.
Ahmed Al-Nusairi
06:51:50 AM
we can not hear you
At the end of August, we don't do summer terms because on a normal like there's only one program on our campus which would be the Masters in athletic training that actually has on campus courses during the summer. And if you're looking for an F1 Visa, you have to be on campus. So I very much hope Michael we don't have to start fall 2020 on line for every student, but we are making contingency plans an official information about that will be released at later.
Ahmed Al-Nusairi
06:52:47 AM
what is the the difference between F-1 and I-20 visas?
Do you want? I'm sorry if I said that your name incorrectly you started your West evaluation about due to document requirements from the University is taking some time, so thank you for letting me know that we know that right now there is some different stalls in the process. We're aware we are being will still evaluate your application, but if it comes to you have until August 21st that is the Friday before the start of term to defer your application to in their term.
So you have some time to see just how things go through, so we will be issuing emissions decisions and we will continuing to be issuing a 20th. We're hopeful that things will resume in. You'll have the opportunity to come, but if you're like, if time if it comes to that time in August, you can defer and will help you with that.
OK, Yep, Collins. So you had submitted it. You got your admission. I would encourage you to reach out a graduate assistantship so you can message me. Let me put the emails for both of them GA or it's GA.
I'm typing this really quick and the the chat bar, so these are the emails for the programs. If you want to talk to them directly.

06:54:34 AM
Hi Anna! Please, I will like to know more about institutional financial aid.
For Christina if you don't have your final degree certificate. Please know that you don't need your final degree certificate for the admissions process. It is possible to get an evaluation on transcripts that aren't complete yet so that's actually a standard practice. There are students who are in their high school degree that haven't finished yet, or in their Masters degree that haven't finished yet, but they're planning ahead and they're applying to University early, it's possible to get partial transcripts evaluated some companies who know that you are about to graduate.
Abolaji Awotayo
06:54:55 AM
Hi, I’m sorry. I didn’t quite get the information on the OPT opportunity. Can you please repeat what you said about it? Thank you.
They won't let you get an evaluation until you have your full transcript issued, and that's honestly to save you money in the long run because they know that you have to pay additional money to have those updated. But if you're looking to apply a full year out and they will do it evaluation on partial transcripts, and then I would if you're doing it. In that case, I would talk to the company to see what their prices are for updating the transcripts. There are a few companies that do ask you to pay the entire field Oregon, but there are other companies that have a lower fee.
So that's a question that's definitely good to ask those companies, but for the actual final degree certificate, the reason why uas requires that is a lot of times transcripts from other nations around the world don't have the name of the three or the date which your degree was issued on the transcript itself. That's something that they only put on the final degree certificate if we get your evaluation, and we see that that information was on, your transcripts will just waive that requirement for you if it wasn't on your shrink groups and we still need it, and you're admitted to uas.
You have until your second term at US. So for example, if you're admitted for fall 2020 and we don't have your final degree certificate yet, you have until January. That would be this with the second term. To get that to you as an. Typically applicants can get it by that point.
It will remain as missing on your application checklist in if anything just to keep sending you those reminder emails so you don't forget. That's not something to worry about. We don't need the final degree certificate to actually be able to give you an emissions decision. I hope that answered the question. So next question is it getting accepted in a full funded scholarship strengthening? So if you have a funded scholarship and you're able to adequately.
Demonstrate your finances. That's helpful to be able to pass your visa interview. Definitely very, very strong chances of that. I'm not able to give you 100% statement when where the other the US government in the visa process is looking for status of you as a legitimate student. So when they're looking for legitimate student, they aren't defining it. How and University would? And at that point you're admitted to University. You are illegitimate student, but the US government.
Define legitimate student as someone who fully understands the purposes of an F1 Visa. So an F1 Visa is a non immigrant visa. Non immigrant visas are not pathways to US citizenship or permanent residency, so when you're doing the interview, they're looking to make sure that you adequately understand that you can adequately communicate your plans for your time at uas and have it doesn't have to be this fully presented business plan for what you do after you graduate, but definitely an image of what that would look like.
That's what the US government's looking for a new visa.
Next, what is the difference between F1 and I20? So I 20 is the documentation that states that you've been admitted to an institution that could host an F1 Visa and you take that document with you to the embassy to be able to book your visa interview to have your visa interview. If you're awarded the F1 visa, you use the I-20 when you enter and exit the United States, so that is tide to an F1 Visa.
Varshini Arunachalam
06:58:24 AM
I received my admission decision letter a few days back, will I still be considered for the Graduate Assistantship position for this fall ? If I submit my application now.
There's versions of an I-20 that are tide to like a J1 Visa or an M1 Visa, but that's a document for used for immigration used by the student exchange visitor program, so it's not a visa in it of itself, but can help you obtain a visa. I hope that explanation was at quit.
So the information on the opete opportunities. So every applicant that graduates with a degree from the United States is.
Offer the ability to be able to stay in the US still on that same visa type, but gain at least one year of work experience, but in some cases where you are enrolled in a stem program, that would be a program like our computer science are Masters of information like management information systems as well as environmental, public health. These programs are stem certified. They have an additional 24 month extension.
So these programs that are kiss if your graduate from one of those programs, you could stay for not just the one year following your education, but up to three years. And that is what opete is optional. Practical training, helping you get that practical experience while you're on that visa.
I received my admission decision a few days back, so for the graduate assistant ship position, if they're graduate assistantship positions that don't require that you had of 80s a, then yes. If you submitted that application for the graduate assistantship program, you would be considered. They do get updates and notifications for applicants you can reach out to them. If you want to have a conversation with them about that, but it's.
Further information on that wouldn't be able to help you with, but there are other positions that would be waiting to see if you've been awarded that visa, which of course right now isn't possible, but we're all hopeful and monitoring that.
I've gotten through the questions here a lot of short sighted went full on registered.
There's a question here looking at what type of job opportunities are available with the GPS I position so the different departments will have. Like for example, there is a graduate intern for the GPS GPS. I intern who had a position with the Department of Public health and she worked for initiative that was creating an educational program for suicide prevention for teenagers within this region of the County. So she helped develop that program. She monitored hotline. She was able to talk with teens and go into schools and.
Help him understand options like locally, so that was an initiative. One student was involved in. There's another student who was with our computer science Department and she was working for the Department of Transportation. We do have an airport here in Springfield and she was at that airport at a research station and they were I don't know the intricacies of that program, but I know she was helping them develop some software for their research with drones. Another program is a Department he was inventing. Another student was involved in the Department of.
Environmental resources they were looking at.
Water quality within the state of Illinois. So there's like two different interns. One intern was involved. Looking at the data crunching numbers and creating a data analytics applicant like student looking at information that way and then she was actually testing the water samples to be able to create that data for the other intern. So those are just a few examples that I'm aware of. Those positions vary greatly. They're very detailed, very specific there. It's all programs and they are looking.
At trying to help you get real practical experience will also meaning that Nate needs of the state of Illinois. Other position other questions that I've gotten.

Thank you Anna for today's Webinar Session
So for students who are interested in athletics, there are scholarships for athletics, and those scholarships are we are a Division Two School.
So the scholarships awarded after you know code reviews of video or talks with you about your statistics, your stats and everything. If they extend you an offer, that offer can also be stacked alongside your academic scholarship. Or if you have an institutional scholarship, can step that way as well. So if you're happens to be someone who's athletic you are on this web and R and you would like to know more about the athletics program. There is a form on the Athletics website for.
Potential recruit where you can share your information. I'm definitely recording a video of yourself and then when the coaches review those stats. If they're interested, they'll reach out to you.
Looking at the rest of the questions.
So a question for safety of the students right now students are who they are actually still students and mostly international students on our campus because they're not able to return home. We had them stay on campus there having food catered to them. We'd still have are we actually have a police force that is on campus, which is great because they're trained. There's a police Academy like 510 minutes from campus In addition to the state police headquarters here on campus.
So we have police officers who are dedicated to on campus on campus safety. There's a one minute response time for our blue towers that are all over campus. You Press a button, then they come really great. It's a pretty safe campus. We are located just outside Springfield, so well, there are buses that go into Springfield where kind of secluded little community out on the side. Honestly, there's a lot of animals that find their way onto our campus, so you'll see deer, raccoons, other animals, so probably.
That's probably some of the scariest things someone who's never seen it here. They're quite large. They're very peaceful so you don't have to be afraid of them, but probably one of the most most many saying things that you may or may not sound campus for some people.
Uh, so I've reached through a lot of the questions that I've had here. I cover them out presentation. If you didn't want to talk with me about specifics of a particular program or the specifics of your particular enzyme yourself, please reach out to me. I'm more than happy to schedule a time to talk with you one on one before ending this webinar. I wanted to know if you guys had any more questions.
OK, it doesn't look like anyone else has other questions. Thank you so much for joining me today. I hope you have a great rest of your day and if you need anything else feel free to reach out. I'm here to help you.
